Colleen McAleer, the business development director for Port of Port Angeles and candidate for the commission that oversees the Port, said this week that former Executive Director Jeff Robb knew she had not approached Team McAleer to conduct work on behalf of the Port.
In a May 7 “memo to self” that served as the basis for a wide-ranging discussion with McAleer, Robb wrote, “What would be the perception and/or is there a conflict of interest when you made the unilateral decision to select a real estate agent from Team McAleer?”
Team McAleer includes Colleen McAleer’s father and brother, who are both brokers at Re/Max Fifth Avenue. She was formerly a member of Team McAleer before taking the position at the Port.
In an e-mail McAleer wrote to herself following the meeting, she noted, “Last year he said not to hire McAleers as agents (I completely agreed) and that Kruth would be a good option. I did that and began working with aP.A . agent as well on a potential Walmart purchase and due diligence. He said it was improper to hire Kruth since he worked for Team McAleer. I explained — no that they are direct competitors and that the office broker is Liz Parks. He asked if McAleers would have received any commission — I explained no, that they would not.
“I also had explained several times over the past year that the Port would not be required to pay any commission unless we signed a buyer agency agreement or a lease agreement. He called David Kruth directly to confirm that last month. Hiring David Kruth from Re/Max Fifth Avenue was his suggestion.”
Since the initial interviews with the Gazette, Robb has declined to answer further questions.
