Clallam County Sheriff’s Office a bump stock return location

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Washington State Patrol with the Bump Stock Buy-Back Program that gives Washington residents an opportunity to turn in their bump stocks before the federal law banning the devices takes effect on March 26.

Residents can turn in their bump stocks for a written receipt at the Sheriff Office’s main office at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. Port Angeles, between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on March 20, 21 and 22, and March 25.

The resident must have a valid mailing address and provide an official Washington driver’s license and/or identification card. They can then bring the official receipt in person or mail to a designated State Patrol office and get a voucher from the WSP for $150. Once their voucher is processed by the WSP, the WSP will mail the resident a check for $150 for each bump stock they turn in.

Washington State Patrol officials say there is a limit of five bump stocks per resident, and all vouchers are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the $150,000 appropriated in Senate Bill 5954 has been distributed, no more funds will be available.

See the WSP website, www.wsp.wa.gov/buyback, for the list of WSP offices issuing the $150 voucher.

Residents also may turn in their bump stock directly to one of the listed WSP offices for a promptly issued voucher. The local Port Angeles office is not accepting bump stocks nor issuing the voucher.

The Sheriff’s Office will destroy the bump stocks that are turned in to its office.
