Clean audits for City of Sequim, Transportation Benefit District

The Washington State Auditor’s Office’s financial audit of the City of Sequim for 2017, and an accountability audit for both the city and the Transportation Benefit District for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017, came through without any findings, city staff said last week.

There have been no findings in City of Sequim audits in more than 27 years and the transportation district has received clean audits since its inception in 2010, city officials said.

Financial audits check adequacy of internal controls for financial reporting and ensure accurate financial statements and disclosures.

“The audit determined that both organizations’ financial statements met the requirements of Washington state regulations and were fairly presented,” city officials said in a press release.

Accountability audits are designed to verify public resources are safeguarded from fraud, loss and abuse and ensure compliance with rules, regulations and internal policies and procedures. The audits found that both organizations complied with applicable requirements and provided adequate safeguarding of public resources, the City of Sequim said.

The State Auditor’s Office is charged with auditing all agencies in Washington state.

Audit reports are available now on the Washington State Auditor’s Office website at www.sao.wa.gov, and on the City of Sequim website at www.sequimwa.gov.
