Grange hosts annual dinner
Sequim Prairie Grange hosts its annual Family Christmas Dinner 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at 290 Macleay Road. The Sequim High School Chorus will perform.
An awards ceremony follows the potluck dinner.
Unwrapped toys and food donations for the Community Aid and Food Bank will be collected.
SARC to honor Kuss
The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center staff and board of directors will host a celebration of life for board member Annette Kuss.
The event is from 10 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Dec. 9, at the center, 610 N. Fifth Ave.
Staff will serve coffee and cake, and visitors can sign a card that will be given to Kuss’ family.
Kuss, who served as a board member for three six-year terms from 1974-1992, was serving again as a board member until her death on Nov. 26.
The board of directors also has canceled its meeting scheduled for Dec. 8; directors approved the 2011 operating budget and have decided to not increase rates in 2011.

‘Empty bowls’ needed
The Museum and Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley is asking for artists in all media to donate handmade bowls for the “Empty Bowls” exhibit in January. Bowl donations will be accepted at the exhibit center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim, from noon-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, or by arrangement before that date.
Handmade bowls will be displayed and sold for a set donation to benefit the Sequim Food Bank. They may be of any material, including pottery, ceramic, paper, fibers, wood, glass or any other material the artist wishes.

Holiday wrapping offered
The Museum and Arts Center offers holiday gift wrapping noon-4 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 11 and 18, at the exhibit center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
Volunteers wrap patrons’ gifts for a donation of $3 per package.
Purchasing the gifts from the Museum Store or Sequim Arts Small Works Show and Sale at the center is not a requirement for wrapping.
Cancer support groups
Retired physical therapist Barb Paschal facilitates a program about exercise and healing during cancer treatment at noon, Thursday, Dec. 9, on the second floor at Olympic Medical Center’s Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
The women’s cancer support group meets 1-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the same place.
The group’s Dec. 28 meeting and a men’s cancer education group meeting on the third Monday of the month are canceled.
“Look Good, Feel Better,” which teaches participants how to combat appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment, meets 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, in the Olympic Medical Cancer Center Conference Room.

Baby care items drive
Sequim Rainbow Assembly No. 57 will collect donations for the “Cradle of Caring Baby Care Items Drive” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Safeway and QFC in Sequim. Baby items and cash will be accepted for the Sequim Food Bank.
Esther Chapter No. 19 Order of the Eastern Star and Port Angeles Rainbow Assembly No. 33 will sponsor a drive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in Port Angeles at the Masonic Hall, Safeways, and Albertson’s,
Port Angeles donations, including baby food, formula, cereal and disposable diapers, will go to the Port Angeles Food Bank.

Warmth collected
First Federal is collecting new and gently used coats, blankets, hats, gloves and mittens through Dec. 15 for the Salvation Army Warm Coat and Blanket Drive.
Items may be dropped off at any Sequim or Port Angeles First Federal branch.
Clothing collected will be distributed from the Salvation Army, located at Second and Peabody streets in Port Angeles.

The Edward Jones office of Kristopher Henrikson, 755-C W. Washington St., will hold a food drive to benefit the Sequim Food Bank.
