Donate to Coats for Kids in Sequim

Volunteers with Coats for Kids, a program established in 1996 by Sequim Elks Lodge #2642 new coats and shoes to local children through all school districts and children’s programs in Clallam County, are asking the community for donations of new coats and shoes or monetary donations.

They can be dropped off at the Sequim QFC, 990 E. Washington St., through Monday, Dec. 31.

Checks may be made out to “Coats For Kids.”

Local scouts to recycle trees for funds

Boy Scout Troop 1498 hosts their annual fundraiser, picking up Christmas trees in early January to be recycled. Scouts will pick up trees on Saturday, Jan. 5; suggest donation is $20. Scouts cannot accept flocked trees.

Irrigation district sets monthly meeting

The Highland Irrigation District has moved its regular meeting to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Adagio Bean and Leaf, 981 E. Washington St.

Parks’ online system set for temporary closure

Washington State Parks’ online reservation system will be down from Wednesday, Jan. 9, through Tuesday, Jan. 15, as the agency puts the finishing touches on a new and improved system to be launched Jan. 16.

During that transition week, all Washington state park campsites, day-use shelters and accommodations will be first come, first served and payable at the park by cash only.

On Monday, Jan. 14, the system is scheduled to open for existing customers to update their accounts, including changing passwords, but it will not accept new reservations. On Jan. 16, all customers can use the website (www.parks.state.wa.us) to reserve campsites, cabins, yurts, some vacation homes, shelters and group camps up to nine months out.

Hot wing contest a United Way fundraiser

United Way of Clallam County hosts the second-annual Hot Wing Contest at Coyote BBQ PUB on Friday, Jan. 11.

Interested participants are asked to register on United Way’s website, www.unitedwayclallam.org, and contribute a $10 suggested donation at the event. Spectators are encouraged.

Coyote BBQ PUB, at 201 E. Front St. in Port Angeles, is donating $2 from each pint ordered during the event to United Way of Clallam County. Fors Financial is the sponsor covering event costs.

These events raise funds for United Way of Clallam County’s annual campaign that supports 24 local nonprofits.

McTakeover scheduled

Helen Haller Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Organization hosts a McTakeover from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Sequim McDonald’s, 107 S. Seventh Ave. McDonald’s will donate 40 percent of sales for those two hours, school officials say.

Helen Haller’s PTO is also selling BOGO coupon books as a fundraiser for school projects. The $5 books offer $34 in savings and are available at Sun Valley Realty, 609 W. Washington St. #7, from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Call 360-582-3200 for more information.

Senior menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP (at least 24 hours in advance) to 360-683-8491. Menus are subject to change.

Thursday, Dec. 27: Fruit cup, baked chicken, mac and cheese, glazed carrots, dessert

Friday, Dec. 28: Green salad, liver and onions, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, dessert

Monday, Dec. 31: Green salad, tomato soup, Beef pot pie, corn, dessert
