County lifts some shellfish restrictions

There are no closures in Dungeness Bay nor in the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Cape Flattery to Lyre River/Low Point.

Harvesting, however, is closed to all species in Sequim Bay and the Pacific Ocean beaches, while Discovery Bay is closed to only butter and varnish clams.

For more information about this closure, call the Shellfish Safety Hotline at 800-562-5632, or visit the Department of Health’s Shellfish Safety Website at www.doh.wa.gov/shellfishsafety.

Nonprofit to help with projects in Nepal

The Global Humanity Initiative, a Sequim-based nonprofit, announced last week the organization is assisting in construction of two major projects to benefit impoverished children in Nepal.

“First, we are partnering with a well-established, global French organization, to build a new children’s home in the Kathmandu Valley,” founder/president Alicia Jean Demetropolis said. “This new home will house 20 children whose parents were either killed in the earthquakes of 2015, or who are unwilling or unfit to care for them.”

Demetropolis explains that their current home is too small, and they are turning away children in need.
