Coffee with mayor event is Thursday

The City of Sequim “Coffee with the Mayor” program continues in November. Residents can meet informally with Mayor Dennis Smith at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Bell Creek Bar and Grill, 707 E. Washington St. Administrative Services Director Sue Hagener will join the mayor.

Smith will be at the Bell Creek Bar and Grill each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the City or the community. Contact Dennis Smith at dsmith@sequimwa.gov with questions.

New in town?

If you are new to Sequim or considering relocating to Sequim, the “New in Town Conversation” gathering has been designed for you.

The events are from 2:30-4:30 p.m. each third Wednesday every other month at First Federal, 333 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

The next is Nov. 16.

Guild sets bazaar

The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital holiday bazaar will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road. It features 30-plus local handcraft artists, Santa with gifts for children and a free photo opportunity with Santa.

VFW putting on free Thanksgiving meal

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim, will have a free Thanksgiving dinner from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, for all veterans and active military service personnel.

Sunshine hosts annual harvest dinner

The Sunshine Cafe, 145 W. Washington St., Sequim, hosts its 14th Annual Free Harvest Dinner from noon-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24. Donations are appreciated. Make reservations by calling 683-4282.

Trinity serves up holiday dinner

A traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner will be served at 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim. Reservations, which are required to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by email to dinnerstumc@aol.com.

The free dinner is part of Trinity’s community dinner program. Dinners normally are served on the last Thursday of each month, but because of other holiday season activities, there will be no dinner in December.

City of Sequim sets Arbor Day celebration

The City of Sequim is anticipating the designation as a “Tree City USA” later this year. To celebrate the designation, the city will plant fruit trees along the north side of the Gebhardt/Zwicker Trail, located behind QFC, at noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, in an Arbor Day celebration. All are welcome.

Planning commission considers amendment

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Based on a request from the board of county commissioners, the commission will review recommended changes on proposed amendments to the Clallam County Critical Area Code related to existing, ongoing agriculture regulation standards.

The commission also will continue discussion regarding development regulation updates to bed and breakfast facilities and similar transient lodging in residential zones.

Hospital Guild thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St., will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

The shop is bursting with holiday items including fine dishware, linens, and decorations. Furniture items, pictures, books, winter clothing, designer hand bags and jewelry also are featured. Remember your purchases help the guild fund medical items for the community.

Volunteers and consigners always are needed.

Eat, drink, give back

Smugglers Landing, 115 E. Railroad St., Port Angeles, invites everyone to dinner and football from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, to benefit United Way of Clallam County. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit.

Memorial for departed

A non-denominational holiday memorial service to honor those who have died starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Drennan and Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. RSVP at 582-3796.

Medicare Part D Open Enrollment help is available from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 18, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., to help you with your 2017 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan choices.

Garden club selling holiday wreaths

Port Angeles Garden Club members are sharpening their shears and warming up their glue guns in preparation for their 2016 Holiday Wreath Sale. This annual November event offers decorated, fresh holiday wreaths on a pre-ordered basis.

More than 250 wreaths are made with fresh greens, cones, other decorations and a bow gathered for the wreath making workshops over several months by many members. Undecorated wreaths are available this year for $20, wreaths with a bow for $25.

Peninsula horse club offers scholarships

The Olympic Peninsula Arabian Horse Club is offering youth within Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam counties who own, ride or show a purebred or half-Arabian horse the opportunity to submit an essay to compete for scholarships.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays-Fridays.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
