Department of Licensing sets end-of-month closures

The Washington State Department of Licensing is preparing to launch a new, fully modernized driver licensing system at the end of August, and customers need to be aware of office closures and service disruptions.

In order to transition from the old system to the new system, driver licensing and vehicle licensing services will be closed Friday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 3, 2018. The closures include the following locations in Clallam County:

• Sequim Licensing Depot, 649 W. Washington St., Suite 2, Sequim

• Clallam County Courthouse, Department of Licensing, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 1, Port Angeles

• West End Vehicle Licensing, 192681 US Highway 101, Forks

Services that will be closed during Aug. 31-Sept. 3 include:

Driver License Services

• Driver licenses

• Instruction permits

• Identification cards

• Enhanced driver licenses

• Commercial driver licenses

• Certified copies of driver records (Abstract Driving Record)

Vehicles and Vessels

• Vehicle and vessel registration

• Vehicle and vessel titles

• Reporting of the sale of vehicles and vessels

• Pick-up of registration and tabs ordered through online services

Business and Professional Licenses

• Prorate and Fuel Tax

• Counter services in Olympia and Vancouver

Customer Service Center

• DOL’s call center

• DOL’s online services

In addition, there are a number of DOL online services that will be disrupted beginning Aug. 26 and throughout the weekend. Examples include online services used to buy car tabs and renew driver licenses.

A full listing of affected online services is available on the DOL website at www.dol.wa.gov/about/what-is-drives.html.

In order to avoid the rush leading up to the new system cut-over, customers are encouraged to come in or go online earlier in the month of August to complete their driver license and vehicle transactions.

This is the second in a series of overhauls to the Department of Licensing’s “legacy” systems. The first phase to update the vehicle licensing system was successfully completed in December 2016. A third future phase is being planned to address business and professional licensing systems.
