Following election certification, Sequim favors Trump

Looking at the statistics, Sequim seems to favor president-elect Republican Party candidate Donald Trump following the Nov. 29 certification of the Clallam County 2016 general election — particularly outside city limits.

Across the county, 80.5 percent or 41,042 ballots were cast with Trump and running mate Michael Pence finishing with 18,794 votes or 47.63 percent over Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine’s 17,677 votes or 44.8 percent.

Of note, Trump won Dungeness East by one vote, 351-350 while Clinton won Dungeness West by 10, 192-182 and she won Elk, between the Sequim city limits and Carlsborg by six, 79-73.

Clinton won all of the City of Sequim’s six precincts with a total of 1,980 votes to 1,777. She also received the only triple digit precinct win by Cline Spit in a 394-261 vote.

However, Trump saw his biggest wins in the Sequim area in the Blue Mountain precinct 427-335, Lost Mountain 261-172, Macleay 372-302, Prairie North 361-291 and Robin Hill 320-250.

The Clallam County Auditor’s Office reports that of 23,678 registered voters in those boundaries, 20,096 cast a ballot or 84.9 percent. Sunland North saw the highest percentage of turnout at 91.5 percent followed by both Dungeness West, 90.5 percent, and Dungeness East, 90 percent. The lowest turnout was in the first two precincts of the City of Sequim at 78.5 percent and 78.9 percent.
