Garage fire near Sequim causes $100K in damage

A homeowner suffered minor burns when a garage fire caused roughly $100,000 in damage near Sequim this week.

Clallam County Fire District 3 personnel responded to the fire in the 100 block of House Road on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 9:45 p.m., according to a press release.

The first crews to arrive reported smoke and fire coming from the front of the single story detached garage.

The fire had vented out the open overhead door where a minivan was parked halfway inside of the garage, apparently while being worked on.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from outside the garage, and the fire was contained to the inside of the structure.

The minivan was winched out to aid the firefighting effort. Clallam County Public Utility District responded and secured the power to the garage.

The owner suffered minor burns on her right hand and was treated by paramedics on scene.

The structure suffered extensive damage estimated at $70,000. The contents were also estimated at $30,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

District 3 Assistant Chief Dan Orr said there was no insurance associated with the structure.
