Hikers rescued from beach bluffs near Diamond Point

A group of hikers are safe after finding themselves stranded on the side of a bluff just northwest of Diamond Point, thanks to efforts of technical rescue personnel from Clallam County Fire District 3 and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

At about 8:30 p.m. on July 24, deputies responded to a beach just northwest of Diamond Point to search for four stranded hikers, who after finding their way blocked by incoming tide, tried to climb the beach bluff to a nearby road.

The bluff became too steep and the walls of the bluff continued to give way the higher they climbed, sheriff deputies said. Eventually the hikers reached a point too dangerous for them to climb up and too dangerous to try to slide down the bluff back to the beach.

Deputies found the hikers at about 9:45 p.m., and were able to assist two of them from a lower point in the bluff.

Clallam County Fire District 3 and their technical rescue crew assisted the remaining two hikers, who were located about 50-60 feet higher up the bluff and in a more dangerous position.
