Laxson earns spot at national Junior Olympics meet

Sequim’s own Logan Laxson is making the leap to the national stage. Laxson earned three qualifying efforts at the USATF Region 13 Track and Field Championships, held July 6-9 in Spokane, and moves on to compete at the National Junior Olympics, set for July 24-30 in Lawrence, Kan.

Laxson, who enters Sequim High School as a freshman this fall, took first in the 200 meter hurdles with a 26.45-second effort, more than a second faster than runner-up Darius Dixon.

He finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.20 mark, 0.25 seconds behind champ Dixon.

With a 5.39-meter leap, Laxson took fourth place in the long jump.

Laxson also held the third-fastest time in the 100-meter sprint after the semifinals but wound up seventh in the finals, clocking in a 12.17 seconds.
