The New Dungeness Light Station has been in continuous operation since 1857 and is the oldest lighthouse on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and second oldest in Washington. New Dungeness was the last Coast Guard manned lighthouse on the West Coast and has been manned and maintained by the volunteer NDLSA, which receives no federal, state or local government funding, since 1994.

During a recent workweek, a group of 13 volunteers spent a week power washing the buildings, repairing fences, sprucing up the landscaping, painting, repairing gutters and deep cleaning all of the facilities.
