Miano to run for Fire District commissioner seat

William “Bill” Miano, a veteran of the fire service, has announced his candidacy for Clallam County Fire District 3 Commissioner election in 2019.

Miano has more than 21 years in the fire service as a career firefighter and paramedic, and is a volunteer firefighter with Clallam County Fire District 3.

The fire district has one of its three commissioner positions up for election this year: Position No. 3, a six-year, non-partisan position currently held by James Barnfather.

Barnfather said this week that he plans to run for his commissioner position.

Miano said he is running for a commissioner position in Fire District 3 because he’s “passionate about providing a high level of fire protection and emergency medical service to the residents of District 3, while using tax dollars efficiently, eliminating waste and planning for future growth,” he said, in a February press release.

“Fire District 3 missed an opportunity to use federal dollars to increase their firefighter staffing by not accepting the SAFER Grant (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) in 2017,” Miano said. “Now those needed positions have to be funded exclusively with local taxes to provide the necessary service levels.”

Miano said he hopes to “keep the district focused on providing a high level of service during this period of population growth and budget responsibly to allow the district to be able to accept grants in the future.”
