Minaiture therapy horse visits youth

Drama, a 9-year-old miniature therapy horse, visited the Sequim Boys &Girls Club on March 4 to interact with club members.

She is a registered therapy horse through Pet Partners, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington with entities throughout the United States.

Drama’s owner and trainer Sheri Dingmon said she just moved to Sequim from Auburn four months ago and wanted to do community service in her retirement.

Dingmon said Drama has done more than 100 indoor visits from rehabilitation centers to hospitals and visited patients of all ages.

“She’s happy going in rooms and going bed to bed,” Dingmon said of Drama’s work as a therapy horse. She explained that Drama was a show horse before she became a therapy horse and describes her as having a calm demeanor.

In the future, Dingmon is hoping to bring Drama to visit patients with memory and elder care and individuals with cystic fibrosis.
