Clallam Transit hosts public meetings

Clallam Transit System will host a six-year Comprehensive Transportation Plan update beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St. Discussion will include what Clallam Transit services will look like next year and into the future, a review of short-term service improvements and a priority list of suggested long-term service enhancements. Fifth Sunday breakfast

The VFW Military Order of the Cooties Auxiliary will serve breakfast from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at the post annex, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim. Cost is $5. On the menu are chicken fried steak, hash browns and eggs.

Five Acre School begins

‘Bare Necessities’ drive

Five Acre School is supporting the North Olympic Foster Care Association by holding the "Bare Necessities" drive. Now until Friday, Dec. 5, the community can donate warm winter essentials for children in foster care. Drop-off locations are the Dungeness Kids Company in Sequim next to the QFC and Five Acre School at 515 Lotzgesell Road in Sequim. County offers free HIV testing

Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services will join other organizations across the country to recognize World AIDS Day by offering free HIV testing from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dec. 1. No appointment is necessary. The testing will be offered at Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services in Port Angeles, 223 E. Fourth St. For more information, call 360-274-2274.

Windermere returns to community

The offices of Windermere Real Estate, well-known for their large Christmas light displays, will be foregoing that holiday tradition this year.

"We are dimming our lights and going with much smaller displays this year in honor of the community," said Terry Neske, owner, "and turning the proceeds back to the community by sponsoring a Windermere Family Photo Day at the Santa in Sand display."

Admission to the display is one can of food per person. Neske and his agents have promised to match the canned food donations received during their event can for can.

Residents of Clallam County are invited to join the staff of the Windermere offices in Port Angeles and Sequim for holiday refreshments and for a free photo with Santa from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at The Landing mall. Residents and their families and pets will sit with Santa and have their photo taken digitally. The finished prints will be available at no charge for pick-up at The Camera Corner.

Human rights speak-out planned

A Human Rights Day speak-out will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Veterans Memorial Park at Fourth and Lincoln streets in Port Angeles. The event is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by demanding an end to the Border Patrol checkpoints and by envisioning a world without wars and occupations; a world that defends civil liberties and assures economic justice for all.
