Quilcene woman dies in Hwy 20 collision

A 25-year-old woman from Quilcene was killed and a Port Angeles man was injured in a two-vehicle crash at about 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, on state Highway 20 — about nine miles south of Port Townsend.

Washington State Patrol reports Krystal J. Reuther died at the scene when her 2004 Honda Civic collided with a 1992 Ford pickup truck driven by Kevin M. Bennett, 35, of Port Angeles.

Bennett was transported to Jefferson General Hospital.

The State Patrol reports that Reuther was traveling eastbound on state Highway 20 approaching a curve at milepost two at a speed too fast for wet roadway conditions. Reuther began to over-steer and crossed the center line into the path of Bennett’s truck, striking the other vehicle.

Both vehicles came to rest on the westbound shoulder.

No charges are pending, the State Patrol reported.

The highway was closed for about four-and-a-half hours.
