Registration deadline approaches for caregiver conference

The deadline to register is fast approaching for community members to attend the 11th-annual Building Your Caregiver Tool Box Conference, set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Port Angeles Senior Center.

This year’s theme is “Back to Caregiving: Know Your Community Resources!”

The event is a free conference for family and professional caregivers.

Morning presenter Candace Hammer Chaney, a registered nurse and Comfort Therapy Program Director for Assured Home Health in Washington and Idaho, will discuss experiences of being a caregiver in today’s world – including the impacts caregiving can have on caregivers plus tools and resources available to support caregivers.

Local support services will also be highlighted in an afternoon question and answer panel discussion that will include:

• Mark Harvey, Olympic Area Agency on Aging/Information & Assistance

• Michelle Cook, Home & Community Services/DSHS

• J.P. Persall, Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County

• Scott Brandon and Michael Salyer with Volunteers in Medicine or VIMO, which features both medical and dental services.

Jane Meyer, regional long-term care ombudsman, for Jefferson and Clallam Counties, will moderate the panel discussion.

In addition to the presentations, participants will be able to visit nearly two-dozen vendors that are taking part in the annual event.

Breakfast refreshments will be available and sack lunches provided Park View Villas with registration for those who register by today, Nov. 8.
