Royalty readying for fun flowing Irrigation Festival

Irrigation Festival royalty recently spent an afternoon under Sequim’s sunny skies, and among irrigated crops for their annual photo shoot.

Photographer Keith Ross snapped shots for the festival’s program and website by the Dick Family Barn at the Kitchen-Dick Road/ Old Olympic Highway intersection last Sunday.

The girls, Queen Erin Gordon, Princess Eden Batson, Princess Gracelyn Hurdlow, and Princess Gabi Simonson, said they’ve been prepping for the festival in many ways, including rehearsing an exclusive song for the Crazy Daze Breakfast at Sunland’s clubhouse to kick off the festival on May 4.

The girls were proud of their first parade, Tacoma’s Daffodil Parade on April 7, where they won the Spirit Award.

“It rained the whole time, but it was so much fun,” Hurdlow said.

“It was a bonding experience for sure hiding from the rain with the other royalty,” Gordon said.

On the first weekend of the Irrigation Festival, Crazy Callen Weekend, Gordon and Simonson debut in Sequim High School’s operetta “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

Batson said she’s looking forward to the Kids’ Parade on May 5, while Hurdlow said she’s really excited for the Grand Parade on May 13.
