Santa, tree lighting traditions continue

Santa Claus, Irrigation Festival royalty and more celebrated the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sequim Home Town Holidays on Nov. 26.

Music filled the damp air in Downtown Sequim by the Sequim City Band, Sequim High Jazz Band, Joyful Noise students, Sequim High “Softball Singers,” Jonathan Simonson, and The Olympic Men’s Chorus.

The 40-foot tree, donated by a private citizen and transported by Bekkevar Logging and Trucking, was illuminated by volunteer tree decorator Captain Crystal Stout. Patrick Walker, known for lighting the Jamestown S’klallam Tribe’s properties, decorated the tree.

Several gift certificates were given out and Sequim’s Maribeth Stewart guessed 2,150 lights exactly on the tree to win a prize, too.

Previously, Emily Westcott and Stout coordinated volunteers to light Sequim’s Washington Street that were sponsored by Sound Community Bank and First Security Bank. For Saturday’s festivities, Boy Scout Pack 4490 provided the crowd with hot drinks, chili and Christmas wreaths, Irrigation Festival Princess Hailey Kapatan and Welfare for Animals Guild volunteers brought Brutus the dog and the Sequim High School cheerleaders led coloring book and face painting stations.
