Jonathan Sweeney, 39, of Sequim, was convicted by a Clallam County jury this week of domestic violence fourth degree assault in an attack on his uncle, the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office reports.

According to court records, the victim approached Sweeney’s residence to check on his elderly stepfather, who lived with Sweeney. After the victim was refused entrance, Sweeney reportedly punched his uncle in the face, causing him to black out.

A witness confirmed that Sweeney struck his uncle multiple times in the head.

When officers from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office responded, Sweeney reportedly threatened them with a shotgun and told them “Go ahead, shoot me,” but was taken into custody without further incident, according to court records.

Sweeney pled guilty during the trial to other charges of displaying a weapon, obstructing law enforcement and resisting arrest.

Judge Dave Neupert sentenced Sweeney to 164 days in jail with credit for time served, according to documents filed in court.

Sweeney also lost his firearm rights when convicted of the domestic violence assault, Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Acker said.
