The community is invited to meet with Sequim Police Officers for “Coffee with a Cop” from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Sequim Starbucks, 1095 W. Washington St. This is an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns or just get to know the officers in one’s neighborhood.

Clallam County law enforcement agencies, including the Sequim Police Department, are taking part in the Nationwide Prescription Take-Back Day.

Individuals can drop off expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Sequim Police Department, 152 W. Cedar St.

Drugs may also be dropped off anytime during regular office hours Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. The collection service includes both controlled and non-controlled prescription drugs as well as over-the-counter medications.

The Sequim Police Department will also now accept illegal drugs for destruction. Syringes and medical waste will not be accepted, however.

Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in America. Law enforcement officials remind citizens that they should never flush prescription drugs down the toilet or sink drain unless the label or accompanying patient information specifically instructs one to do so.

For questions, call the Sequim Police Department during business hours at 360-683-7227.
