Stallings celebrates 100 with five generations of family

Mildred Ellen Stallings, formerly of Sequim, celebrated her centennial on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Five generations of Stalling’s family turned out for her birthday at her new residence at St. Andrews Place in Port Angeles, including her daughter Linda (Feiring) Erickson and her husband Dale of Sequim.

When asked if turning 100 is big deal to her, Stallings said, “It seems to be. It’s been nice so far.”

Most of her family was in attendance including her three living children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Erickson said the birthday party was the first time all five generations had been together, including those who flew in from Michigan.

Stallings, who was born in Seattle, and worked mostly in retail and as an accountant for the State of Alaska, moved to The Fifth Avenue in Sequim with her husband Harold in 2000 from Port Townsend after more than 25 years there.

Turning 100 is something Stallings said she never expected. She said her father lived until four weeks short of turning 104 and her sister and brother lived to 92. As to her longevity, she said, “Live each day as it comes cuz you never know.” To celebrate her birthday, Stallings ate cake with family and friends from Sequim and Port Angeles.
