Structure fire damages Sequim residence

A fire in the home on the 400 block of Williamson Road destroyed most of the belongings of a Sequim resident on Oct. 1.

Fire District 3 personnel responded to a single-story structure fire a little after 6 a.m. Monday morning after a next-door neighbor reported it.

The first crews arriving on scene said about a quarter of the home was affected; firefighters sought to contain the blaze in the kitchen, a bathroom and one side of the exterior of the building.

The occupant, who was not at home at the time of the fire, lost most belongings as there was extensive smoke damage throughout the residence, fire officials said.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the home and another $25,000 worth of contents.

Cause of the fire is ongoing, fire district officials said Tuesday.
