John N. Pfeffer

A funeral Mass for Sequim resident John N. Pfeffer will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 W. Maple St., Sequim.

Mr. Pfeffer died June 27, 2009, at the age of 88.

He was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Bismarck, N.D.

A full obituary will appear in a later edition.

Edward Hunter

'Ed' Beggs

A service for former

Sequim resident Edward Hunter "Ed" Beggs will be held at 1:30 p.m. July 10 at Salmon Creek United Methodist Church, 12217 NE Highway 99, Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Beggs died June 22, 2009, at the age of 91.

He was born July 3, 1917, in Seattle, to Hunter and Lora Beggs. He was raised in Nespelem.

He graduated from high school and married Marcia Brittain in a small town on the Colville reservation in eastern Washington.

He began his business career with a Chevron service station. In 1959, he moved his family to Wenatchee, where he started a new career with an International Harvester dealership.

After his retirement in 1972, he and his wife moved to Sequim.

He operated an auto parts store for many years and became the first full-time mayor of Sequim in 1984, serving the community for six and one-half years.

He gave many hours of service to the Exchange Club, Chamber of Commerce, Museum and Arts Center and the Methodist church. He received the Paul Harris award from Sequim Rotary.

Always a mechanic "fixing" something, he enjoyed time with family and friends as well as photography, collecting classic boats, traveling and helping others.

The Beggses moved to Vancouver in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; son Tom of Carson, Calif.; daughter Linda of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Sleeth; granddaughter Kimm and daughter-in-law Karen Beggs.

Richard James Bennett

A memorial service for Port Angeles resident Richard James Bennett will be held at 1 p.m. July 21 at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.

Mr. Bennett died June 21 at the age of 72 of cancer.

He was born Nov. 30, 1936, in Winona Lakes, Ind., to Eldon and Alice Milbranth Holderman Bennett. He was a former resident of Northridge and Santa Barbara, Calif.

He married Carol Shade on Oct. 20, 2002, at Sequim Community Church.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1961 and 1962-1965. He was a second lieutenant with the military air transport service and first lieutenant with RESAF. He was a captain for TWA for 32 years.

He earned a degree in fine arts and worked as a commercial artist after graduation. He was accomplished in oils and watercolors, doing commissions for more than 30 years.

He was a member of

Sequim Community Church, Oil Painters of America, Northwest Watercolor Society and Creative Arts Group.

He is survived by his wife Carol Bennett; stepson Ty M. Showalter of Boyne City, Mich.; daughters from a previous marriage and sons-in-law Michelle and Jonathan Hirschfield of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. and Kristie and Jason Schlaeger of San Jose, Calif.; sister Joan Bennett of Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Randy Gene Workman

A memorial service was held for Sequim resident Randy Gene Workman, who died June 21, 2009, at the age of 58.

He was born Aug. 19, 1950, in Provo, Utah, to Isaac Dilts and Uneva Litster Workman.

He served in the United States Army from 1980-1985. He was a sergeant.

Mr. Workman, who was divorced, is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Raphael and Barbara Workman and Phillipe and Leanne Workman; daughter and son-in-law Isabel and Ryan Stanhope; brothers and sisters-in-law Homer and Marla Workman and Scott and Alice Workman; sisters and brothers-in-law Carol Rickman; Peggy and Jock Spencer; Karen and Mel Nance; and Sandra and Daniel Wikin; three grandchildren; and 26 nephews and nieces.



Roy Walter Hanson

A private service will be held for Sequim resident Roy Walter Hanson, who died June 27, 2009, at the age of 87.

He was born Dec. 15, 1921.

Gerald LeRoy Johnson

No services were reported for Port Angeles resident Gerald LeRoy Johnson, who died June 20, 2009, at the age of 77.

He was born Dec. 20, 1931.
