Lucille Springer

A Mass for Sequim resident Lucille Springer will be celebrated at 11 a.m. July 31 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim. The Rev. Victor Olvida will officiate.

Mrs. Springer died July 21, 2009, at the age of 99.

She was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Alvord, Iowa, to Theodore and Anna Schmidt Goldschmidt.

She married Ellsworth Springer on July 6, 1946, in Alvord.

A schoolteacher and principal in Iowa, she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., after her marriage.

The couple moved to

Sequim in 1980.

She enjoyed family gatherings, dancing, playing bridge and calligraphy.

She participated in events at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dungeness Meadows, Elks Club and the Grange.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Eugene Magallanes of Redmond; two granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, and numerous nephews and nieces of several generations.



Burnis F. Abbott

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 31 at Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident Burnis F. Abbott.

A reception follows at the Eagles Annex, 110 S. Penn St., Port Angeles.

Mr. Abbott died July 24, 2009, at the age of 84 of cancer.

He was born May 19, 1925.

Kirsten 'Margaret' Hess

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Kirsten "Margaret" Hess will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the home of Debra and Allen Danielson, 1231 Carlsborg Road, Sequim.

Mrs. Hess died July 13, 2009, at the age of 86.

She was born June 29, 1923, in Norway to Carl and Ingrid Helland.

She married Douglas Wayne Hess.

Mrs. Hess was a businesswoman, vice president of Thoroughbred Industries and vice president of Tim Horton Donuts.

She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, traveling, gardening and spending time with family.

She was a former Minnesota, Kentucky, Toronto and Kalispell, Mont., resident.

She is survived by her son Phil Hess; daughters and sons-in-law Kirsten and Phil Daniel, Debra and Allen Danielson and Margo and Rick Fraser; daughter-in-law Jean Hess; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons Jack Hess and Douglas "Duffy" Hess and a granddaughter.



Bill Clevenger

A celebration of life for former Sequim resident Bill Clevenger will be held in Idaho.

Mr. Clevenger died July 9, 2009, at the age of 89.

He was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Wheatland, Wyo., to William and Jennie Fizzelle Clevenger.

He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He married Janet Clevenger in 1946 in Spokane.

Mr. Clevenger practiced civil engineering for 56 years and earned honors during his professional career. He lived in Sequim from 1984-2005. He had a passion for fly fishing the rivers of northwestern Washington and traveled to many countries for different types of fishing.

He is survived by his wife Jan Clevenger of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sons Bill Clevenger of Temecula, Calif., Tom Clevenger and Pat Clevenger, both of Post Falls, Idaho; daughter Marty Obermeyer of Denver, Colo.; sister June Johnson of Ozark, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.



Tony van Renterghem

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Tony van Renterghem will be announced at a later date.

Mr. van Renterghem died July 19, 2009, at the age of 90.

Raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, he was trained as one of the last mounted cavalry officers. He served eight years in the Netherlands armed forces, including combat against German paratroopers during the Blitz and five years in the Dutch Resistance during the German World War II occupation of Holland. He helped hide those fleeing Nazi persecution and initiated and ran the film and photo units of the Dutch Resistance, known as the "Underground Camera." For his wartime activities, he received awards from the Dutch government and the Israeli Yad Vashem "Righteous Among the Nations" honor.

After the war, he served as public relations officer on the staff of H.R.H. Prince Bernhard, then the commander of chief of the Netherlands Armed Forces.

Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Netherlands government and became active in international politics, where he represented the Netherlands as chairman at Cambridge University of the first post-war International Congress, a forerunner of the European Union.

In 1948, he immigrated to the United States where he spent 35 years in the motion picture and television industry, working in photography and cinematography and as a technical, historical and script advisor with several film companies.

He was an advisor and personal assistant to director George Stevens Sr. on such films as "The Diary of Anne Frank" and the epic "The Greatest Story Ever Told."

A former resident of Malibu, Calif., he was president of Malibu Institute, Inc., working as a writer, consultant and researcher for Twentieth Century Fox, Hoffman La Roche, University of Southern California, the Environmental Management Institute, University of Minnesota, Growth Technologies, Inc., SIECUS, the Los Angeles Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Association for Humanistic Psychology.

His book "When Santa Was A Shaman, the Ancient Origins of Santa Claus and the Christmas Tree" was published in 1995.

His just-completed autobiography, "The Last Huzaar-Resistance without Bullets" is scheduled to be published in 2010 by Dutch publisher Conserve.

Late in life, he co-founded a chapter of Veterans for Peace in Arizona and served as its first executive director. He also was a founding member of the North Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Veterans for Peace.

Awards he received include a special award for "his lifetime of devotion to peace and justice" at the 2005 Veterans for Peace National.

He was fluent in English, Dutch, German and French.

He is survived by his wife, Susanne Severeid, their son Pablo; two adult children from a previous marriage, Clifford and Tanya; and granddaughters.

Olympic Cremation Association was in charge of arrangements.



Del Merrill Aure

A Mass celebrated the life of Sequim resident Del Merrill Aure, who died June 27, 2009, at the age of 71.

He was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Due to his father's career, his family moved several times throughout his youth, giving him the opportunity to attend school in numerous locations. He graduated from high school in Wiesbaden, Germany.

He attended college in Oxnard, Calif., and worked as a car mechanic in California until his retirement in 1999.

He met his wife, Ann, in Los Angeles in 1959. They were married Jan. 23, 1960, and had two sons.

After retirement, the Aures traveled the country extensively in their recreational vehicle.

They moved to Sequim in 2004 and continued to enjoy outings in their motor home.

Mr. Aure liked flying model airplanes, boating and fishing, as well as the companionship of his Siberian husky, Mariah, and his cat.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Sequim; two sons; four grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.



Joseph Smith

Morrison Littrell

A private ceremony was held for former Sequim resident Joseph Smith Morrison Littrell, who died April 8, 2009, at the age of 66.

He was born July 10, 1942, in North Bend, Ore., to Joseph Smith Morrison and Doretta "Dee" Vasilatos. He grew up in Coos Bay, Ore.

He married Carole Hood in 1966 in Coos Bay, Ore. They later divorced.

He served in the United States Marine Corps and worked in the insurance industry in Providence, R.I., before he returned to the Coos Bay area in 1980. As a Coos Bay resident, he built a houseboat, opened a restaurant and started a local newspaper.

He settled in Sequim in 1986, where he lived until 2004 when he began his dream of becoming a world cruiser. His journey took him as far as San Diego, Calif., before he moved to Seattle.

He was a sailor, swimmer, dancer and artist, adventurer and an entrepreneur even in his youth.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Leanne Littrell DiLorenzo and John DiLorenzo of Portland, Ore.; Moreen Littrell of Los Angeles, Calif.; Andromeda Littrell and Joshua Kellemen of Tacoma; mother Doretta "Dee" Littrell-Lawrence and her husband John of Coos Bay, Ore.; brothers and sisters-in-law Steven and Becky Littrell of Turner, Ore.; and David and Martha Littrell of North Bend; stepchildren Miriam Marvin of Tacoma and Tom Kelley and Kevin Kelley of Providence, R.I.; and friend Andreas Torras of Kent.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive father Marion O. Littrell in 1983 and his father Joseph Morrison in 1996.

Wayne Allen Kinsey

No services were reported for Sequim resident Wayne Allen Kinsey, who died July 11, 2009, at the age of 61 of cancer.

He was born March 6, 1948, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 17 years in sniper, rescue and E4.

He married Bobbi Duncan on April 7, 1988, in Comox, British Columbia, Canada.

Mr. Kinsey moved to

Sequim in 1991.

Mr. Kinsey was a soldier, sailor, emergency medical technician, fireman and commercial pilot. He translated Vietnamese and spoke Russian and French fluently.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760; Echo 2, 9; and Mile High Club.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Kinsey of Sequim, and surrogate son Skyler Steven.

Memorial gifts may be sent to Clallam County Veterans Relief Fund or Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.

Primrose May Bredl

She was born May 30, 1957, in Port Angeles to Frank Gene McBride and Marie McFarland McBride.
