Velores M. Wells

A memorial service for Sequim resident Velores M. Wells will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Faith Baptist Church, 7652 Old Olympic Highway, Sequim. The Rev. Lonnie Jacobson will preside.

Mrs. Wells died Aug. 13, 2009, at the age of 83.

She was born May 13, 1926, in Ellensburg to John and Marietta Mattis Plaw.

She married William Wells on Feb. 16, 1946, in Lakewood.

She enjoyed golf and family.

She was a member of the Dungeness Golf Club.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mary and Bill Wells Jr. of Shelton; daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Steve Teltus of Gig Harbor; and Shirlee and David Sours of Poulsbo; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Lee Johnson of Selma, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Stuart Minty

A potluck reception for Gardiner resident Robert Stuart Minty will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.

Mr. Minty died Aug. 10, 2009, at the age of 75 after a

two-year battle with cancer.

He was born April 29, 1934, in Seattle to James and Marguerite Minty. The family moved to Gardiner in the mid-1940s. He attended Port Townsend High School, graduating in 1952. Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he attended the University of Washington.

In 1961, Mr. Minty went to work for the U.S. Forest Service in Hoodsport as an engineering technician.

In 1962, he met his wife, Joyce Carol Ryder. They were married Jan. 26, 1963, in

Hoodsport.

In 1964, they were transferred to the Quilcene Ranger Station. While in Quilcene, he joined the volunteer fire department and served as fire chief for 12 years.

He was a member of Quilcene/Jefferson Masonic Lodge 107.

He spent many weekends working as an instructor at the state fire training center at North Bend.

He retired from the forest service in 1991, then went to work for Jefferson County as emergency medical services coordinator. He worked there for eight years, retiring in 1999.

After retirement, he became active in the Gardiner community and served three years on the Gardiner Community Center board.

At his death he was serving as chairman of the Gardiner Cemetery District board of commissioners.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons Michael of Riverside, Calif.; and Robert of San Antonio, Texas; daughters and son-in-law Marguerite and Dave Shaffer of Sumner; Janel Minty of Bellevue; brother James Minty of Seattle; and two grandsons.

Cathy Lee McBride

A memorial service has been held for Sequim resident Cathy Lee McBride.

A Port Angeles/Sequim resident her entire life, she died July 15, 2009, at the age of 52 following a short illness.

She was born May 30, 1957, in Port Angeles to Frank Gene and Marie McFarland McBride.

A homemaker, she loved spending time with her family and friends and especially loved her cat Tigger.

She was a member of Unity in the Olympics Church in Port Angeles.

She is survived by her brother Gene McBride of Port Angeles; a niece; many cousins and extended family members.

Marilyn 'Mike'

E. Kottler

Private family services will be held for Sequim resident Marilyn "Mike" E. Kottler, who died Aug. 9, 2009, at the age of 83.

She was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Montesano, to Earl Michael and Juanita Wade.

Miguel 'Michael' 'Speedy' Gonzales

At his request, no service will be held for Port Angeles resident Miguel "Michael" "Speedy" Gonzales, who died July 22, 2009, at the age of 76.

He was born May 8, 1933, in Floresville, Texas, to Octaviano and Guadalupe Talamantez Gonzales.

He retired after many years as a business owner/operator and worker in the flooring business.

He umpired both Little League and adult baseball teams and was an avid golfer.

He was a member of Dungeness Golf Club.

Mr. Gonzales is survived by his fiancee Rosemary Thompson and her children; son Michael Gonzales and daughter Debbie Gonzales.

Gladys E. Sherwood

A service has been held for Sequim resident Gladys E. Sherwood, who died Aug. 11, 2009, at the age of 95.

She was born May 12, 1914.

Eugene Parks Tilley

At his request, no service will be held for Sequim resident Eugene Parks Tilley, who died Aug. 6, 2009, at the age of 74.

He was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Longview to Dan and Virginia Climie Tilley.

He served six years in the National Guard.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

He married Judy O'Grady in December 1993 in Sonoma County, Calif.

Mr. Tilley was a national sales manager at Moore Business Forms in Chicago, Ill.; and publications division manager at Lithocraft in Santa Rosa, Calif.

He enjoyed classical music, gardening, corgi dogs, nature, travel and baseball.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Stephen and Helen Tilley of Fairfield, Calif., Mark and Samantha Tilley of Darwinton, Conn.; stepchildren and their spouses Steve and Jessie Kroeck of Sebastopol, Calif.; Pamela and Michael Hogan of Petaluma, Calif.; and Todd and Lee Kroeck of Santa Rosa, Calif.; sister Joan Finley of Lindsay, Calif.; mother-in-law Ruth Grady of Sequim; eight stepgrandchildren; one stepgreatgrandchild; two nephews and a niece and their spouses.



Richard 'Rick'

Emory Porter

No service was reported for Sequim resident Richard '"Rick" Emory Porter, who died Aug. 12, 2009, at the age of 52 of a heart attack.

He was born Nov. 7, 1956, in Aberdeen to Emory James and Pauline Rena Porter.

He graduated from Sequim High School in 1975.

Mr. Porter was working as a kitchen manager and cook at Smugglers in Port Angeles.

He enjoyed painting ceramics and collecting Star Wars memorabilia.

He is survived by his significant other of 25 years, Debra "Lynn" Finley; son Wynston Emory James Porter of Sequim; stepson Steven Michael Finley of Sequim; daughter Kassandra Leigh Porter of Sequim; stepdaughter Tearra Lynn Finley of Sequim; mother Pauline Rena Porter of Sequim; sisters and brother-in-law Marilyn Warner of Sequim and Elizabeth and Floyd Fishel of Neilton; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emory James Porter.
