Patricia Dove
Long-time resident of Sequim Patricia Dove, also known as "Patti" or "Gogo", passed away after a short, hard fight with cancer on Saturday May 15, 2010 at Sherwood Assisted Living. She was 84.
Patti was born March 17, 1926 in the Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse, Mosselbay, South Africa, to Charley who was a light house keeper and Kitty Cornish. She married Campbell Dove on March 17, 1947 and assisted in the running of the family funeral business, and worked as a travel agent, homemaker and mother in Durban, South Africa.
Patti, Campbell and son Patrick immigrated to the USA in 1974, lived in Shelton and then moved to Sequim in 1978. Sons Barry and Roy immigrated later. Patti became a US citizen in 1983.
Patti had been an active member in the Sequim Community Church since 1986, becoming a Stephen Minister in 1992 and ministering to others in the church and community. She had also served many years as a Deacon. She was also deeply involved in Congregational Life, Women in Mission, Women's Circle, Women's Bible Study Group and Kids Express. Patti was also a volunteer for the church Blood Bank drive.
For the last 30 years she was involved with Rainier School for the Disabled in Buckley, WA, where her youngest son Patrick has been a resident. Many of those years as secretary for the Parent Club " Friends of Rainier" which has been instrumental in preserving and petitioning the legislature on behalf of the mentally disabled and Rainier School. Patti was also a member of the New Dungeness Lighthouse Association.
Mum loved and cared about people, she made a point of keeping in touch with many friends some of them she had met on her travels, always remembering birthdays and special days of those friends and family. She loved to travel making new friends and visiting new places. She was known for her outgoing personality and positive outlook on life. She had a loving and caring spirit. She had compassion for those hurting and in need. Mum knew no strangers. Most of all, Mum had an unfailing faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and that was evident in her service to the Church and to those she knew, always ready with an encouraging word and a helpful hand. She loved her family and friends very much. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. We will miss her smile and her presence here on earth, but rejoice in knowing that she is with her Lord and loved ones in heaven for eternity, where one day we will meet again.
Patti is survived by son Roy (Alisa) of Selah, WA; son Patrick of Buckley, WA; daughter in law Belinda of Sequim, WA; grandson Matthew of Reno, NV; and granddaughters Ashley of Mt. Vernon, WA and Xisa of Sequim. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Patti was preceded in death by her beloved husband Chum in 1993 and her loving son Ba (Barry), also her three sisters Thelma, Thurle & Thora and her two brothers George and Jim.
There will be a memorial service at Sequim Community Church on June 5th at 1:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Friends of Rainier, P.O.Box 516, Medina, WA. 98039. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, Sherwood Assisted Living and Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care that Mum received during her illness. Also to thank her dear friends that visited and encouraged her especially her very close friend and advocate Gisele Thompson.
Russell Frank Smith, Jr.
July 21, 1916 - May 16, 2010
Russell Frank Smith, Jr. died May 16th at the age of 93 after a long bout with cancer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 21, 1916 and grew up in South Bend, Indiana before joining the Navy at age 17. During World War II, he was in the submarine fleet, on a submarine named the "FinBack". During the war, he was awarded the Silver Star for saving the submarine and all aboard. He belonged to the Naval League in Bangor, where he gave talks of his experience on submarines.
After the war he moved to Seattle and married Marguerite Smith and worked for Hansen Sunbeam Bread, maintaining their fleet of trucks. He later started his own business, "Smith's Mobile Wash". He retired and moved to Sequim with his long-time partner of over 20 years, Eileen Torrance. He has two sisters: Betty Paulk and partner Max Kruger, who live in Sequim; and Phyllis Kuboske, who lives in South Bend, Indiana. He enjoyed flying his planes and boating. He had many friends and people say he was "one of a kind". He was the type of person you could always count on in an emergency.
He is survived by his children and their families, who all live in Washington State. They are MaryBea of Edmonds, Kathleen Boehm of Marysville, and Mark Smith of Lynnwood. He has 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Hebron Edward Cook
No services will be held at the request of Sequim resident Hebron Edward Cook, who died April 26, 2010, at the age of 66.
He was born April 30, 1943, in Pomona, Calif., to Willard Edward and Annie Katherine Jackson Cook.
He was raised in Nacogdoches, Texas, with his sister, Judy.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and served for eight years.
He married Sandra Clayton in Houston, Texas, in 1965. They had three daughters, Donna, Trisha and Mary, and divorced in 2002.
He lived in Galena, Texas, until 1976 when he opened CardioScan NW in Portland, Ore. The family moved to Sequim in 1984. He worked as a mechanic until his health forced his retirement.
He loved riding horses in western games and won many state championships with his horse Kin Flicks.
He was a member of
Sequim R.C. Aeronauts, where he rebuilt many crashed planes for his friends.
He is survived by his daughters Donna Jensen of Bainbridge Island; Trisha Benda of Des Moines, and Mary Gloor of Sequim; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Dick Richmond of Sequim; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one nephew; one niece; four great-nephews and one great niece.
Patrick Alfred Stumbaugh
A celebration of life for
Sequim resident Patrick Alfred Stumbaugh will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the Parkwood Retirement Community Clubhouse in Carlsborg.
Mr. Stumbaugh died May 17, 2010, at the age of 83 of cancer.
He was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Ellensburg, to Alfred and Zora Stumbaugh.
He moved with his parents to Gibbon, Ore., and then Pendleton, Ore., where his father worked with the Union Pacific Railroad and his mother taught school to the Umatilla Native American children.
He attended school at St. Joseph's Catholic Academy. At 16, his Forest Service career started on the Umatilla NF road crew as a temporary employee.
He moved up through the ranks as laborer, driver, and equipment operator.
Shortly after turning 18, he joined the Army. He served from 1945-1947, some of that time in Japan. In 1965, he moved to the Quilcene area as equipment operator foreman.
He met his wife, the former Patricia Ann Anderson, who was a secretary at the Forest Service in Quilcene.
They were married Jan. 5, 1967, and became known as Pat & Pat.
He retired from the Forest Service in 1982 after more than 35 years of service and traveled to Canada, Mexico, Arizona, and Reno, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Sequim, daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and John Newman of Quilcene, Jackie Piotrowski of Port Angeles, and four grandchildren.

Loren Patrick Kelley
A memorial service for former Sequim resident Loren Patrick Kelley will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Haller Lake Methodist Church, 13055 First Ave. NE, Seattle.
Mr. Kelley died Friday, May 21, 2010, at the age of 79, of esophageal cancer.
He was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Swatara, Minn., to Lawrence Henry and Bertha Orissa Kelley. He graduated from Brainard High School in Brainard, Minn., in 1949.
After graduation, he moved to Sequim to be closer to his older sister Lorna Blair and her husband, Earl Blair.
He married Leota Laurene Blair on March 3, 1951, in Sequim.
He joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1956, beginning his career at Station #18, the old Ballard Fire House. He rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 1963, captain 1966 and battalion chief in 1972. He was stationed at numerous Seattle Fire Department battalions, including the Seattle fireboat, until his retirement in 1987.
Frequent trips to Dungeness Bay to fish and crab with family and old friends were a favorite pastime.
He is survived by his wife, Leota; son Douglas Kelley of Issaquah;, daughters and sons-in-law Debra and David Simmonds of Redmond and Dianne Kelley and Steve Mishler of Camano Island; sister Marie Leonard of Duluth, Minn.,; eight grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Albert and Robert Kelley and sisters Lorna Blair and Georgia Town.

Port Angeles resident Nellie Booth died May 28, 2010, at the age of 100.
She was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Quay County, N.M., to Benjamin and Florence Potts Dunlap.
