Wilma Jean 'Sonnie' Oglesby

A celebration of life open house for Sequim resident Wilma Jean "Sonnie" Oglesby will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at 201 Community Lane, Sequim.

Mrs. Oglesby died Sept. 20, at the age of 74.

She was born June 29, 1936, in Grangeville, Idaho, to Clarence and Mildred Chamberlin Harrison.

She married Dwight Oglesby on March 1, 1969, in Spokane. She worked as an accounts manager for AT&T for 32 years. She lived in Lewiston, Idaho, until 1982, when she moved to Federal Way. She retired in 1989 and moved to Sequim.

She volunteered with the Sequim Museum and Arts Center, was an avid golfer and a member of Dungeness Lady Niners. She was a member of Sequim Senior Singles and played poker, bridge and pinochle weekly with club members and friends. She and her family enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clamming in Puget Sound. She also was an accomplished gardener.

She is survived by her son Mont Jeffreys of Shelton; daughter LaDene Thomas of Graham; sister Geneal Byers of Lewiston; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



Elizabeth Smith Platt

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Elizabeth Smith Platt will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

Mrs. Smith died Sept. 18, 2010, at the age of 102.

She was born July 3, 1908, in Salmon, Idaho, to William and Mabel Ball Smith.

She married W. Emerson Platt on June 11, 1931, in Moscow, Idaho. She was postmaster in Huston, Idaho, and a bridge player.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Selma Sauve of Sequim; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew.



Alice Jeanette Edgington

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Alice Jeanette Edgington will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at 911 E. Willow St., Sequim.

Mrs. Edgington died Sept. 18, 2010, at the age of 88.

She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Sequim to Leroy and Agnes Nelson Lotzgesell. She graduated from Sequim High School in 1941.

She married Walter John Bucher in October 1941. He died in 1945. She married Donald Raymond Edgington in 1946. He died in 1984.

She farmed in the Sequim area with her husband, Donald, then spent a couple of years in Bandon, Ore., building a plywood mill before they returned to Sequim.

She was a great-granddaughter of Dungeness pioneers George and Gertrude Heinemann Lotzgesell. Mrs. Edgington was a grand pioneer for the 2008 Sequim Irrigation Festival. She was an avid reader.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ralph and Karan Edgington of Sequim; daughters and sons-in-law Marlene and Monty Davis of Sequim and Shirley and Jerry Almaden of Joyce; sisters and brothers-in-law Winona and Dick Bekkevar of Sequim; and Trenna and Lance Otis of Port Orchard; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

One great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.



Bonnie Nadine Burton Mortenson

A service was held for Bonnie Nadine Burton Mortenson, of Nordland, who died Sept. 19, 2010, at the age of 68 of complications of a stroke.

She was born Oct. 4, 1941, in Port Angeles, to Byron and Ellen Echternkamp Burton and graduated from Sequim High School in 1959.

She married Darrell Lynn Mortenson on Feb. 1, 1960, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1990. She lived most of her life in Washington where she and her husband owned a propane business.

She enjoyed bowling, darts, pool and golf. She also loved to camp and trout fish.

She is survived by her friend and companion George; sons and daughter-in-law Jeff and Alice Mortenson of Blaine and Duane Mortenson of Bremerton; daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Rick Gore of Port Hadlock; brother and sister-in-law Don and Diane Burton; sister-in-law Ginger Burton; sisters and brothers-in-law Betty and Dale Clothier; Darlene and Rick Hamilton; and Carol and Matt Adams; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jim Burton.

Eva Acker

A service was held for former Sequim resident Eva Acker, who died Sept. 16, 2010, at the age of 99.

She was born Dec. 3, 1910, in Dolores, Mexico, to Jesús and Onecima Contreras Loera.

Born in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico, she became a United States citizen in 1911 when her family moved to Mesa, Ariz.

She married George Acker in 1936. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1978.

The couple moved to Mexico City in 1948, where her husband worked for the Department of Agriculture and later to Casablanca, Morocco; Brussels, Belgium; and Germany. After his retirement in 1974, the couple bought a home in Sequim.

Mrs. Acker was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and an avid bridge player. She participated regularly in "Cards for Cardiac," a group that raises money for the Sequim Hospital Guild.

She moved to Los Angeles in 2003.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Ena and Jerry Poncar of Fox Island; Alice and Harvey Mechanic of Los Angeles; Lydia and Stephen Vancura of Solado, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



Ernest W. Humphrey

A service will be announced at a later date for Sequim resident Ernest W. Humphrey, a retired U.S. Navy captain, who died Sept. 23, 2010, at the age of 95.

He was born May 24, 1915, in Hastings, Neb., to Robert W. and Georgia Kelso Humphrey.

Timothy A. Scannell

No services were reported for Port Angeles resident Timothy A. Scannell, who died Sept. 24, 2010, at the age of 67.

He was born June 24, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., to Timothy D. and Doris F. Probst Scannell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.
