Letha Maxine Clay (Schmuck)
January 22, 1933 - September 26, 2010
On September 26, 2010, our mother and devoted wife, Letha Maxine Clay, finally found peace under the care of the exceptional staff at Olympic Rehabilitation Center in Sequim.
Being born from a Sequim pioneer family of dairy farmers, she came into this world as Letha Maxine Schmuck, on January 22, 1933, the firstborn daughter of Max and Iris Schmuck. She was always very proud of her father's lineage, many of whom came over from Germany and landed at Port Williams in the early 1900s. She graduated from Sequim High School in 1951 at the top of her class and took great delight in helping to plan many class reunions. Her home was always filled with the laughter of class members before and after each one.
Shortly after graduation, she married her first husband, Gabe Schmidt, and they had their first daughter, Michaelle. After moving to Port Angeles, they had 2 more daughters, Darlene and Susan. It did not take long before they moved back to Sequim in 1969 so she could live next door to her parents, and she lived there until her death.
During 23 years of marriage with Gabe, she was active in bowling leagues, volunteer work, and was a leader and board member of our local and state chapter of Camp Fire Girls. Whatever she devoted her time to she did with all her heart and soul. After her divorce in 1974, Letha went to work at Safeway in Port Angeles. She loved being back in the work force and it was there that she met her next husband, Clyde Fasola, who was also from a Sequim pioneer family. They had 16 years together before she lovingly buried Clyde from lung cancer.
It took awhile for her to commit to a relationship again until she came to know Albert Harry Clay. What started as a mutual friendship ended up in marriage in 2000 and lasted until her death.
Letha was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brother, Ronald, and her sister, Shirley. She is survived by her husband, Harry, and all three of her children: Michaelle (Alan) Barnard, Darlene (Rick) Murphy, and Susan Weatherbee. She has 4 grandchildren: Brian (Tami) Sofie, Jeremy Sofie, Sarah (Nathan) Ribordy, and Danielle Weatherbee; and 2 great-grandchildren: Brittany Sofie and Brandon Sofie. There are also numerous relatives that she always cared and thought about.
In honor of mom's wishes, there will be no service but a memorial celebration of her life at her home, 255 Cameron Rd., Sequim, on October 9th, 2010, beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we request that any memorial contributions be given to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society. Mom always had a special place in her heart for cats and dogs, and always had at least one pet throughout her lifetime.
Fidel 'Sam' Camacho
No service was reported for Sequim resident Fidel "Sam" Camacho, who died Sept. 25, 2010, at the age of 21 of liver failure.
He was born March 2, 1989, in Seattle to Glen and Donna Robotkay Gast.
He graduated from Sequim High School in June 2010.
He loved music and spending time with family.
His memory can be honored by being kind to one another and smiling often.
John T. 'Jack' Chiasson
No service will be held at the request of Port Angeles resident John T. "Jack" Chiasson, who died Sept. 28, 2010, at the age of 94.
He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Sultan, to D. Joe and Vera Casey Chiasson.
He served in the SeaBees and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Doris "Joyce" Crombie on May 28, 1948, in Port Angeles.
He worked for ITT Rayonier at the Sekiu Booming Grounds and later at the Forks Sorting Yard.
He enjoyed RVing, skiing, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce; son John J. Chiasson of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Janis and Dave Hammond of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Felipe Aue-Sanchez
A full obituary will appear at a later date for Sequim resident Felipe Aue-Sanchez, who died Oct. 2, 2010, at the age of 75.
He was born March 18, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Less and Helen Osper.
He served in the United States Army.
He married his wife, Dora, on Jan. 5, 1968.
