Robertson Treloar Barrett

Robertson Treloar Barrett, Jr.Born September 22, 1918 in Yonkers, NY. Died February 20, 2011 in Sequim, WA at the age of 92.

Bob Barrett lived a long and colorful life carrying with him a warm sense of humor and a strong commitment to the principles and people he loved.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Sloat Barrett, his parents Mabel Backus Barrett and RT Barrett, stepmother Frances Weber Barrett, and siblings Waldo Barrett, Lawrence Barrett and Heidi Barrett Corson. He will be fondly remembered by his children Martha, Rob & wife Elisabeth, John & wife Anne, and Bruce and wife Debbie. There are ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will miss him. Oh yes, he will also be missed by his constant companion, Smokey the Dog.
Bob had a career as an airline pilot at Trans Texas Airways after flying the world as a contract pilot for the Army Air Corps in WWII and having been a flight instructor for the military prior to that conflict. He moved to Sequim, Washington in 1969 to take up a new career as a gentleman farmer with his wife Peggy where they lovingly restored and beautified an old farmhouse on 30 prime acres nestled between the snow covered peaks of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

During his lifetime he engaged in many hobbies including house building, furniture building, restoring antique furniture, photography, and computers. He helped start and presided over the Sequim Computer Club for several years when his friends and colleagues were first confronted with the challenges of this new technology. Working with his computers and communicating through that medium gave him great satisfaction and a connection to his world, even as his health began to fail him.

A great passion in Bob’s life was investigating the genealogy of his family. Mentored by an older cousin, Bob Barrett Kelly, and joined by son Rob, many great family stories, were rediscovered and became the lore that helped to strengthen the bonds of the family. For a time Bob taught courses in genealogy at the Sequim Library.

He passed away peacefully at his home as he had wished, attended by his children, family and many friends.

Services for Bob will be conducted in the spring of 2011, time and place to determined. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) 540 East 8th Street Port Angeles, WA. 98362-6222
