Dan Terry

A tribute to Dan Terry, an aid worker with Sequim ties who was slain in Afghanistan last year, will be part of services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday, May 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.
Ten members of a medical team, including Terry, were killed by terrorists while returning to their base Aug. 5 after conducting an eye clinic at a remote village.
Terry’s parents, Pat and George Terry, retired as missionaries and moved in 1990 to Sequim, where they joined Trinity. On leaves from his 39 years of aid work in Afghanistan, Terry and his wife, Seija, visited his parents and attended Trinity.
After his parents’ deaths, the couple continued those Sequim visits. Trinity provided some of his financial support.
The Rev. Bill Gordon delivers a eulogy at both services, with a slide show and dedication of a framed tribute to be placed on permanent display at Trinity.

Terry’s sister, Ruth Terry-Pantenberg, who lives in the Seattle area, is expected to attend. His widow, a nurse, remains in Afghanistan but plans to retire to the United States in September. The couple’s three children live in other parts of the United States.

Delbert Wesley Gilbow Jr.

Delbert Wesley Gilbow Jr., also known as Sonny, left this earth to be with the Lord on April 23, 2011.  He was born in Crane, Texas, on March 13, 1934, to Delbert and Pearl Marie Gilbow, being the second of three children.
Delbert served his country in the armored tank division of the military, and being an excellent rifleman, trained troops for special assignment for different parts of the world.
He attended UC Berkeley and earned his BA in Anthropology then went on to Washington State University in Pullman, WA and received a MA in Anthropology. Leading a team of archeologists, he unearthed a mastodon in Sequim, Washington.
As a young man he worked in the Rangely, Colorado oilfields, served on the Border Patrol, was a law enforcement officer, a college teacher, an Alaskan sea captain, commercial shrimp fisherman, and a scuba diver.
Delbert worked as a disk jockey at KFRB in Fairbanks doing the country and western show with many a fan-following. He was a strong supporter and advocate for gun rights, lobbying in Congress for the state of Washington on the second amendment in the nineties.  Delbert, with his canine companion Bandit by his side, enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is the author of the western historical novel, ‘There Ain’t  No Money In It’, which intertwines nostalgic hints with the territories he traveled and the people he knew and loved.  Drawing near to the Lord in his later years, he worked in California churches in different capacities by organizing outreach programs, providing activities for church seniors, feeding low-income families through church funded projects, teaching Bible classes, and officiating Sunday morning devotions and announcements.
