Jeffrey Ashton Cummins
A celebration of life will be held for Sequim resident
Jeffrey Ashton Cummins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the old
Oyster House site, Oyster House Road off Marine Drive.
Mr. Cummins died Aug. 7, 2011, at the age of 51 of liver cancer.
He was born May 7, 1960, in Friday Harbor to Walter and Betty “Jo” Holliday Cummins.
He married Karin Cummins on Sept. 20, 1985, in Sequim. They later divorced.
He was a heavy equipment operator at
Butcher Pole yard, a real estate agent/broker/owner/land developer.
He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Cummins; parents Walter and Betty “Jo” Holliday Cummins; brother Dave Cummins; and sisters Kelly Davidson and Kathy Nichols, all of Sequim; two nephews; three nieces; and five grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Betty Pangle, Fleeta and Charley Cummins, and uncle Larre Cummins.
Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Wayne ‘Bud’ Curtis
A celebration of life for Wayne “Bud” Curtis will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.
Friends are invited to attend and share memories of his life.
He was born Oct. 20, 1934, and died Aug. 20, 2011.

 

 

Ronald D. Moor
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim, at a later date for Port Angeles resident Ronald D. Moor.
Mr. Moor died Sept. 5, 2011, at the age of 74. He was born in Minneapolis, Minn.
Call 683-2114 for the date and time of the service. He was a greeter and member of the church for 12 years.
He and his wife, Kathryn, owned and operated a grocery store in Williston, N.D., from 1977-1988. He retired as maintenance supervisor at Wesley Home, Des Moines, where he worked from 1988-1999, and was a Gideon from 1990-1996.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters Teresa of Port Angeles and Shelley Cimenski of Royalton, Minn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

 

Merilyn S. Wilkinson
Port Angeles resident Merilyn S. Wilkinson died Sept. 2, 2011, at the age of 91.
She was born May 31, 1920.

He was born July 7, 1948, in Longview to Harry R. and Irene D. Gorde Weedman.

Marie Ellen (Cerutti) Turnberg
June 4, 1969–August 30, 2011

On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, Marie Ellen (Cerutti) Turnberg, 42, passed away peacefully at her sister’s home, surrounded by her family, in Port Orchard, Washington after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marie was born in National City, California on June 4, 1969, to John and Sharron Cerutti.
The family later move to Port Angeles in 1979, where Marie graduated from Sequim High School in 1987, and she also graduated from Central Washington University in 1991, with a BA in English. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Jeffrey Turnberg, and they had two beautiful children, Jeremiah and Summer. Marie was vibrant woman with a great sense of humor who loved to laugh. Marie’s biggest joy in life was being active in her children’s lives, from sports and camping to walks on the beach. Marie is survived by her husband Jeff; son Jeremiah; daughter Summer; her loving parents John and Sharron Cerutti; brother John Cerutti Jr.; sister Sherrie Cerutti;
and extended family and friends.
Marie’s amazing fight will forever inspire us all. A celebration of her life
will be held September 17, 2011, at the Long Lake Community Center,
5100 Long Lake Rd. SE, Port Orchard, WA 98367, 11-2:00 pm.

Ruth E. Storaasli

October 18, 1914 - September 5, 2011
Ruth Elizabeth Storaasli, 96, of Sequim, Washington, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at home, with her daughters at her bedside.
Ruth was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Glenville, Minnesota, to Tosten A. Storvick and Anna Flaskerud Storvick. She grew up in Glenville, Minnesota, graduated from Waldorf Academy in Forest City, Iowa, and Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and enjoyed a long career as a nursing educator.
On July 12, 1937, Ruth married her college sweetheart, Bardolf Andreas Storaasli, in Glenville, Minnesota. Throughout their 65 years together she was a devoted wife, mother of four and a loving grandmother. She was a lifelong active member of the Lutheran Church and delighted in singing soprano in several choirs. Bar and Ruth raised their four children in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Upon retiring they enjoyed traveling and living in Carmel, California, Durham, North Carolina and finally made their home in Sequim, Washington.
Known for her sprightly sense of humor, Ruth was especially fond of sharing the Midwestern “Ole and Lena” jokes dear to the hearts of many Norwegian-Americans. Her ability in finding humor and optimism in everyday life was a gift to all around her.
Ruth is survived by son John (Alison) Storaasli, of Ingleside, Ill., daughters Kathy (Bill) King of Sequim, WA., and Marie Storaasli of Durham, N.C.; grandsons Jon Kirby of Los Angeles, CA., Mikkel (Sarah) Storaasli of Ingleside, Ill., Olaf von Ramm of Raleigh, N.C., and Karl von Ramm of Padise, Estonia; great-grandchildren James Kirby, Jr., Heather Kirby, Michael Kirby, and Noah Storaasli; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bardolf Storaasli, daughter Ruth Anne Bishoff; sisters Mabel Hesla and Tena Iverson; brothers Alfred Storvick and Carl Storvick; and grandson James Kirby, Sr..
A memorial service will be held on Memorial Day weekend 2012 at Round Prairie Lutheran Church in Glenville, Minnesota.
The family is grateful for the tender care provided by the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and would appreciate memorial donations directed to Volunteer Hospice at 540 East 8th St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.
 

 

In Memoriam
Patrick Elliott Bartholomew

Patrick was born on February 2, 1981
in Port Angeles, WA to parents Lewis and Deborah Bartholomew. He was their only child. Patrick was educated in the Sequim school system until middle school, when his mother moved to Auburn, where Patrick continued his education.
A jack-of-all-trades, Patrick worked at various businesses but always kept his hand in making music or his other hobby of motorcycle sports. He had his day job at Cycle Gear in Auburn but he was also known in the lower Puget Sound area as one of the leading DJ and music hosts in the evenings. This was a job he loved because of the joy his performance gave to others.
Patrick’s life was cut short by a tragic automobile accident early in the morning of July 5, 2011 on the Key Peninsula. His loss to his community in King, Pierce and Clallam Counties is felt by many.
Patrick is survived by his father, Lewis Bartholomew of Courtenay, BC, his mother Deborah Culp of Lakebay, WA, two step-fathers, James Derry and John Culp, as well as several sets of grandparents, step-siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
On July 12, Patrick was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in
Auburn, WA. A memorial tribute will be held in Sequim at the Red Cedar Hall at the Jamestown Tribal Center on September 24, beginning at 1:00 pm. All who knew him during his early years at school or tagging along with his father at theatre productions are most welcome to join this celebration of life.

Edith Mae Barr
May 22, 1919 – September 1, 2011

Edith (Edie) Mae Barr died of natural causes in Sequim on September 1, 2011, at the age of 92. She was cherished by family and friends for her sweet, loving, and outgoing nature, wonderful sense of humor, and extraordinary berry pies. Born on May 22, 1919, in Bremerton, Washington, Edith was the younger child of William Phelps West and Carrie Scott West. After graduation from Bremerton High School in 1937, she worked in Bremerton and in June 1943 married Edward Thomas Grace, a 1939 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Lt. Cmdr. Grace was the captain of a destroyer when killed in action in the Pacific in March 1945. On April 16, 1950, Mrs. Grace married Chief Warrant Officer Larry Gene Barr at the PSNS, Bremerton, and led the life of a Navy wife, living in many parts of the country. Mr. Barr retired from the Navy in 1965 after thirty years of service, and the Barrs established their home in Dungeness. Mrs. Barr was active for decades in the Women’s Golf group of the Dungeness Golf Course and the Women’s Club of the First Presbyterian Church of Sequim. She was predeceased by her brother, William (Bill) S. West in 1995 and by Mr. Barr in 2008.
Edith Barr is survived by her daughter Trudie A. Grace and son-in-law Frederick J. Wardy, summer residents of Dungeness; her daughter Debbie A. Barr and son-in-law Paul T. Chromey, of Tacoma; and three grandchildren, Meredith G. Wardy, Alisha J. Chromey, and Darren J. Chromey.
