A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 73 Howe Road, Port Angeles, for Sequim resident Evelyn “Eve” Armstrong, who died Nov. 22, 2011, at the age of 87.

Mrs. Armstrong was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Woolwich, Southeast London, England.
She attended schools in London and Kent, and Dublin, Ireland. She graduated from high school in 1939 and studied art until 1941.
At the age of 17, she enlisted in the English Army’s Auxiliary Territorial Service, supporting anti-aircraft crews in southern England.
She immigrated to the United States in 1945 and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Her career spanned entertainment and acting, then 11 years in radio advertising/sales in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mountain Home, Idaho.
She partnered with her husband, Don Armstrong, in a recreational vehicle business in Bend, Ore., until 1975.
After traveling throughout the United States and overseas, the couple settled in Sequim in 1980.
They were active in the Olympic Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.
She was for many years among the friendly faces at the Sequim Visitor Information Center.
She is survived by her son, Paul; daughter and son-in-law Frances and Rick; stepsons and daughters-in-law Bob and Jan and Donald and Joanie; one grandson, three granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.

Harold Oakes Van Riper
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Macleay Hall at Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, for Sequim resident Harold Oakes Van Riper.
Mr. Van Riper died Nov. 22, 2011, at the age of 80 of sudden cardiac arrest.
He was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Wilmar, Minn.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Neah Bay or Clallam Bay school athletic programs.

Olga Jean Hubert
A service was held for Port Angeles resident Olga Jean Hubert, who died Nov. 27, 2011, at the age of 87 of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Oct. 15, 1924.

Leo R. Beers
No service was announced for former Sequim resident Leo R. Beers, who died Nov. 27, 2011, at the age of 87.
He and his wife recently moved to Kent.
They were residents at Parkwood.
He also was a member of Sequim Bible Church.
A retired Air Force pilot, he is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughter Nancy Kathleen Taylor; brother Terry Beers; and two grandchildren.

Robert K. (Ken) Robinson
Robert K. (Ken) Robinson passed away on Thursday, November 24 at the Veterans Home in Retsil, WA.
Ken was born September 28, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois.
Ken joined the Marine Corps in 1941 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and served during WWII until 1945.
Ken worked for the the railroad for over 40 years as traffic officer and sales manager. Upon his retirement, he spent his years traveling the country by car and made many coast to coast trips to visit family and friends. He was always anxious to begin his next big trip and find a car suitable for the journey. He also enjoyed the company of his good friend and dance partner, Marjorie Adams.
Ken spent over 25 years in Sequim, WA and loved living between the water and the Olympic mountains in the town where “it never rains.”
Ken is survived by three children: Karen Hernandez of Ellensburg, WA; Jeanne Spencer of Sparks, NV, and Douglas Robinson of Washington, D.C.; as well as seven grandchildren: Tory Hernandez, James Birchell, Kacey (Birchell), Jody (Birchell) Hall, Andy Robinson, Alex Robinson, and Scott Robinson. He also leaves behind sisters Ethelyn Wolf and Marthalee Swanson.
