Charlotte Laura McClure
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Sequim View Cemetery for Seattle resident Charlotte Laura McClure, who died April 12, 2012, in Seattle at the age of 96.
The Rev. Dave Wiitala officiates.
She was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Cedarville, Ill.
A full obituary will appear in a later edition.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Albert Joel Barnett
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim, for Port Angeles resident Albert Joel Barnett, who died March 24, 2012.
He was born June 5, 1930.

 

 

Carolina Ross Mackay Willis
There will be at celebration of life at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth St., Sequim, for Sequim resident Carolina Ross Mackay Willis, who died April 1, 2012 at the age of 86.
The Rev. Scott Koenigsaecker officiates.
She was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Hector William and Mary Ann Sutherland Mackay.
She married Alfred Brice Willis on April 9, 1948, in Barstow, Calif.
At her retirement she was employed by the Chamber of Commerce of Kenai, Alaska. She also was administrative assistant to an attorney, librarian for the Barstow, Calif., School District, and worked for the U.S. Marine Corps and the Union Pacific Railroad.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred B. Willis, of Sequim; her son and daughter-in-law Charlie and Nancy Willis, of Wasilla, Alaska; her daughter Mary Willis Alden, of Sequim; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Mildred W. Westin
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Adams Chapel at River View Cemetery in Portland, Ore., for former Sequim resident Mildred W. Westin, who died April 13, 2012, in Poulsbo at the age of 97.  
She was born June 4, 1914, in Minnesota to Richard and Wanda Kube.  
She married Cascius (Cash) Westin in St. Paul, Minn. They started Westin Real Estate in The Dalles, Ore., and in 1978 retired and moved to Sequim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cash Westin.  
She is survived by her son Richard Westin; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Linda Westin; daughter and son-in-law Judy Westin Smith and James Smith; daughter Joan Edwards; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in The Dalles Cemetery next to her husband.
Arrangements were by River View Cemetery Funeral Home in Portland, Ore.

 

 

Eva J. Whitaker
A private service is scheduled for Sequim resident Eva J. Whitaker, who died April 11, 2012, at the age of 82.
She was born Feb. 16, 1930.
Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Marlyce Jacobs
A private service is planned for Port Angeles resident Marlyce Jacobs, who died April 12, 2012, at the age of 82.
She was born Dec. 18, 1929.

Clyde G. Pettett
Former Dungeness resident Clyde G. Pettett, of Amboy, died April 4, 2012, at the age of 102.
He was born June 15, 1909, in Oak Harbor to William and Goldie Stroops Pettett.
He married Ruby Masey in October 1936 in Yuma, Ariz. She preceded him in death in 2001.
A longtime truck driver, he lived in the Dungeness area as a young man before moving to California. He moved to Amboy in 1991.
He was a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Gil and Carol Pettett; three grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

 

 

Mabel Almaden Kraft
Port Angeles resident Mabel Almaden Kraft died April 6, 2012, at the age of 93. She was born in Porinth, N.D., on March 23, 1919, to Carl and Marie Luedke Schilke.

Rosemarie Chaisson
Port Angeles resident Rosemarie Chaisson died April 10, 2012, at the age of 67.
She was born Dec. 4, 1944.
At her prior request, there will be no services.

Lt. Col. Robert J. McNicholas,
USMC, Retired
April 8, 1925 - April 6, 2012

Lt. Col. Robert J. McNicholas, USMC, Retired, died April 6, 2012 at home of heart failure. He was born April 8, 1925, in Boston, MA to John J. and Margaret E. McNicholas. He grew up in Boston and attended the Boston Latin School. 
He entered the Navy V-12 program in 1943 and spent his freshman year at MIT.  He graduated from the NROTC program at Tufts College receiving a B.S. in Engineering, magna cum laude, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He was awarded a sword after graduating No. 1 in his class at Quantico, VA and was assigned to North China.  His overseas duty included China, Guam, Japan, Korea, and Okinawa. 
He was involved in the early testing and development of guided missiles in the Corps, commanded the first guided missile battery.  He was in charge of the Army test of the Hawk missile in Port Hudson, Canada, where they did cold weather testing. He was a member of a special study group studying the future Marine Corps roles and missions.
He earned a B.S. from Johns Hopkins University of Maryland.  Bob also was the recipient of the Navy commendation Medal and the Army commendation Medal. 
On June 14, 1952, he married Ruth M. Mueller in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was a beloved husband and father, married almost 60 years.
In 1968 Bob retired as the Coordinator of Systems Analysis at Headquarters Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel. He became a senior systems analyst with Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA.  His last civilian position was as a senior computer scientist with Computer Sciences Corp. in San Diego.
Lt. Col. McNicholas was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Elks, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, past grand Knight of Sequim Council 8455, and the China Marine Association.  He was active in his church as an Eucharistic minister.  He had been active in the Children of Light Community at Mission San Luis Rey, CA. He was an avid reader, enjoyed travel and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Ruth of Sequim, children Mark McNicholas, Anita Ferron, wife of Daniel Ferron of Boynton Beach, FL, Jeanne McNicholas of Sequim; grandchildren Robert, Natasha, Rose of Boynton Beach, and Denise, who is married to Staff
Sgt. Christopher Atkins, great-grandchildren Kyree and Nathan, of 29 Palms, CA. Also surviving are his sister-in-law Lillian Villani of Naples, FL and cousin Eileen Reynolds of North Andover, MA.
The funeral will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sequim on April 24th at 10 am. Reception will follow the burial at the Sequim View Cemetary.  Rosary will be April 23rd at St. Joseph’s at 4 pm.
Masses or donations to St. Vincent de Paul would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

 

Sylvester R. “Bus” Edquist

Sylvester R. “Bus” Edquist, 90, formerly of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Monday, April 09, 2012, at The Haven, Cedar Grove, WV.
He was born on August 12, 1921 to the late G. E. and Zella Moore Edquist, in Bellingham, Washington.  He was the owner of EDQUIST’S Grocery in Bellingham and Sequim Washington, retiring in 1985.
His favorite pastime was boating, fishing, and crabbing in the waters off Washington and British Columbia, Canada with family and friends. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. 
Due to declining health, he recently relocated to WV to be near his daughter and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wives, Marie Elizabeth, mother of his children, and Grace Lucille.
He is survived by son, Donald J. and his wife Beverly of Auburn, WA; daughter, Susan C. Bowyer of South Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Patrick Scott and Catherine Marie Bowyer of St. Albans, WV; son-in-law, John F. Bowyer of South Charleston, WV; brother, Jerry and wife Jean ; nieces, Barbara and husband Steve Harding of Everett, WA, and Tami and husband Fred Hubbard of Jefferson, Oregon; sisters-in-law, Edna Belknap of Erie, PA and Winifred Evans of Boston, MA.
Mr. Edquist requested cremation and no memorial services.

Charlotte McClure
August 20, 1915  – April 12, 2012
Charlotte McClure went to be with her Lord on April 12, 2012 at the age of 96. She was born in Cedarville, IL to Willard and Neva (Garrison) Fink on August 20, 1915.  She attended Moody Bible Institute from 1933 to 1936 and married Judson McClure in Freeport, IL on September 16, 1937.
From 1937 until 1976 she was a valued helpmeet as her husband served as pastor of several Baptist churches in Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, California and Washington.
They retired to Sequim, WA in 1976, then moved to Silverdale, WA in 1999.  Charlotte spent her last years in Shoreline, WA at the Crista Nursing Center.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law David and Bonnie McClure of Harleysville, PA, son Philip of Seattle, WA, and grandchildren and spouses Theresa and Darrell Terpenning, Kendra and Andrew Huson, David Jr. and Lori, Daniel and Deborah, Ryan and Megan, Laura, and Alyssa McClure, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Duane, and siblings Lyle, Wilma, Ruth and Lowell.
Services: Thursday, April 19, 2 p.m., graveside service, Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Pastor David Wiitala of Sequim Bible Church will officiate.
Memorials: Sunshine Bible Academy, 400 Sunshine Drive, Miller, S.D. 57362-6821. No flowers please.
