Hans Richard Kask
After a brave fight against brain tumors, Hans Richard Kask went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2013. He was born on May 10, 1939 in Tartu, Estonia to Richard and Aino Kask.
In 1944, the Kask family left Estonia to escape from the advancing Russian army. They lived in Germany until 1949 when they immigrated to the U.S.A., living in Olympic, WA.
Hans graduated from Olympia High School in 1957, St. Martin’s College in 1961, and received his Master’s degree from Purdue University in 1963. He worked as a structural engineer and Project Manager for Weyerhaeuser.
Hans had a gift of leadership and was involved in many professional and civic organizations, including SW Structural Engineers of Washington, Tacoma Engineers Club, Tacoma Jaycees, Toastmasters, and Lions Club.
His love of music went throughout his life. He was a 30 year member of SPEBSQA (barbershop singing), sang in many church choruses, organized quartet, musicals, and recently was a member of the Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers in Sequim, WA.
He enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and reading. In 2001, he and his wife, Anne, retired to Sequim. On September 1, 2012, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Han’s parents, a sister, and brother preceded his death. He is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Kimberly/husband Richard Amsden (of Puyallup, WA), and daughter Linda/husband Brian Glas (of Seattle, WA). Grandchildren include Grace Amsden, Erika Glas, and Paul Glas. Hans leaves behind his brother, Mart (wife Linda Reet) of Seattle, nephew Andres Kask of Seattle, nephew Aleksander Kask of New York City, niece Alisa Ferrier of Woodbridge, CA, and niece Ingrid Rauch of Bellevue.
A memorial service will be at Sequim Community Church, 950 North Fifth Street, on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
