Winnifred Elsie “Win” Perman

April 2, 1934 – September 6, 2017

Winnifred Elsie “Win” Perman was born April 2, 1934 in Smithtown, New York, the sixth of seven children of Mary (Arcuri) and Arthur Philip Sanders. In 1945 her family moved from Long Island to Moose Pass, Alaska. She graduated from Seward High School.

Win married Lyle M. Reed in 1951 and had four children with him, all of whom survive her: Sandra Lynne (Vern) Frykholm of Sequim, Marilyn Arlene Johnson of Kenai, Alaska, Glenn Everett Reed of Seattle, and Dyana Lynette (Salvador) Martin of Inglewood, California. During the 1960s the family lived in Anchorage, where Win worked as a bookkeeper and tariff specialist. She also began acting with community theatre groups during this time. After moving to Kenai in 1967 she started working as a travel agent. Win and Lyle were divorced in 1972.

In 1973, Win married Dale Perman and moved to Seattle, WA. She continued her work as a travel agent, eventually owning her own agency – Billiken Travel – for several years, in Seattle’s Smith Tower.

After Dale Perman’s death in 1991, Win moved to Sequim. She owned Hidden Meadow Inn Bed & Breakfast, and was active in Olympic Theatre Arts for many years. She sang bass with the Sweet Adelines, and played the mandolin with a couple of local bands. Win loved to perform, and continued singing and playing the mandolin right into her final days.

During the last twenty years Win battled an array of serious health issues. She faced these with a strong will and spirit, and continued to socialize and enjoy her many friends.

Win passed away September 6, 2017 at her home in Sequim. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Phyllis Mason and Nancy Estes, and brothers Frank Sanders and Art Sanders. She is survived by her sister Betty Hollenbaugh of Pennsylvania, her brother Donald A. Sanders of Mesquite, Nevada, her four children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and a large and loving group of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Dungeness Community Church on Saturday September 16 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Macula Vision Research Foundation (mrvf.org).
