

MARCH 12, 2008Irma Rose CarlsonA memorial service for Sequim resident Irma Rose Carlson will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 12, at Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way. Mrs. Carlson died March 4, 2008, at the age of 89. She was born May 10, 1918, in Augusta, Mont., to Marshal and Clemoris La Pier Swayze. She married Carl Daniel Dan Carlson on Feb. 17, 1967, in Conrad, Mont. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1999. Her occupations included ranching, hardware and building planes as a riveter during World War II. She was a housewife and mother who was awarded many cups, plaques and ribbons in oil painting, published her poetry and was a rifleman. She also enjoyed horsemanship and bowling. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law William and Patricia Barlow of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; daughter Ramona Hooper of Sequim; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. G. Adrienne Anderson A rosary for G. Adrienne Anderson will be said at 6:30 p.m. March 13, followed by a funeral Mass that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. March 14 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Nathe will preside. Mrs. Anderson died March 5, 2008, at the age of 94. She was born April 10, 1913, in Port Angeles to James R. and Irma P. Ballou Gallagher. She married Richard L. Anderson on May 22, 1939. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1984. A lifelong Port Angeles resident, Mrs. Anderson enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and reading her daily newspaper. She was very active in church activities at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Richard L. Anderson of Alexandria, Va.; James and Sandra Anderson of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; Greg and Susan Anderson; Geoffrey and Charlotte Anderson; and Thomas and Kathy Anderson, all of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Geraldine and Gary Braun; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Pomeroy will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim,. Mrs. Pomeroy died March 8, 2008, at the age of 82. She was born April 22, 1925, in Alhambra, Calif., to Lincoln and Beatrice Benesh Sherrard. When she was young, the family moved to Santa Ana, Calif., where her father was a podiatrist. She attended Santa Ana High School and Santa Barbara State College. She earned a degree in library science from Santa Ana College. During the war years she worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. She married Harold Pomeroy on Oct. 21, 1951, in Santa Ana. They moved to Sequim in 1980. She was active in the Master Gardener program, the Audubon Society, and Sequim Community Church, where she attended a Bible study group. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Trent and Pat Pomeroy of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Tammis and Don Berkheimer of Tustin, Calif., and Treeva and Jim Beard of Irvine, Calif.; brother Jere Sherrard of Sequim; and four grandchildren. Dryke A celebration of life for former Sequim resident Patricia J. Dryke will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 N. Blake Ave., Sequim. A reception follows. Mrs. Dryke died Feb. 29, 2008, at the age of 71 of a brain aneurysm. She was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Harlan, Ky., to James and Delphia Hall Haynes. She spent her youth with her three brothers, Jim, Carl and Bill, and countless cousins and friends running through the hollows and attending a small country school. Although she had many losses in her younger years, her parents, brother and stepfather died, she grew up to love life and people. A 50-year resident of the North Olympic Peninsula, she came west to visit her brothers Jim and Carl, who moved to Port Angeles after their military service. Here she met and married Richard Dryke, who preceded her in death in August 2004. She was a homemaker and mother to Marva, Celia, Deb and Rick in a small home in Sequim. During her childrens growing up years, she served as room mother many times, often bringing cookies and treats to the children. She loved that the family home was across the street from the school as she got to watch her own children and many of Pats kids grow up as they played on the playground or walked past on their way to school. Known as Nana to her grandchildren, there was always time for them. She loved talking with them and playing cards or other board games. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Veterans Auxiliary. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Peninsula College. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Maria Dryke of Sequim; daughters and son-in-law Marva Dryke of Sequim; Celia Dryke of Lincoln, Ore.; and Debbie and Doug Cockburn of Sequim; brother Jim Haynes of Tennessee; and six grandchildren. Pipher A graveside service for Sequim resident Richard M. Pipher will be held in May in Maine. Mr. Pipher died Feb. 27, 2008, at the age of 81. He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Sacramento, Calif., to Joseph Mellis and Helen Marion Clark Pipher. While serving in the United States Army, he participated in the occupation of Japan after World War II. He also served for 31 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a senior master sergeant. During his Air Force career, he spent many years on search and rescue missions. He was a C140 loadmaster with the Military Airlift Command. While still in the Air Force, he earned a masters degree in education from the University of New Hampshire. After retiring from the military, he enjoyed teaching elementary school for several years. The Piphers then opened the Gray Elf gift shop in Hulls Cove, Maine, for 14 summers. He also was employed by the United States Postal Service. He married Marianne Hiles Bannister on Sept. 4, 1976. Mr. Pipher was an avid reader and history enthusiast. He traveled the world extensively and enjoyed many extended trips to England, Scotland, Wales and Spain with his wife. He loved fishing and golf. He was a member of the SunLand Golf & Country Club and a faithful member of St. Anselms of Canterbury Anglican Church in Sequim. Mr. Pipher is survived by his wife Marianne Hiles Bannister Pipher of Sequim; daughter and son-in-law Patricia Ann and Thomas A. Gnefkow of Wichita, Kan.; stepson and daughter-in-law Jeffrey G. and Candace Bannister of Mercer Island; stepdaughters Dorian B. Bannister of Windham, Maine, and Gerry L. Bannister of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters and brother-in-law Mary Helen Boyd and Beverley Ann and J.B. Rinn, all of Vancouver, British Columbia; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; three nephews; one niece; and aunt and uncle Isobel and Grant Dillane of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ronald Dean King Jr. A memorial Mass was celebrated for Port Angeles resident Ronald Dean King Jr., who died at his home on or about Feb. 29, 2008, at the age of 43. Cause of death is pending. He was born Dec. 28, 1964, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Ronald Dean and Mary M. Meehan King. He married Desiree A. Wallis. They later divorced. A Port Angeles resident since 1975, he worked as a painter, carpenter and mechanic. He enjoyed hot rods, motorcycles and spending time with his family. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles. He also was a member of Golden Gloves in Arizona, where he was a state champion. Mr. King is survived by his son Jacob King of Port Angeles; daughter Sarha King of Kent; mother Mary Wilson of Port Angeles; brother Levi Wilson of Saitama, Japan; and sisters Tuesday King of Oxnard, Calif.; and Tacy Wilson of Dublin, Calif. Judy Lynn Colón A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Judy Lynn Colón, who died Feb. 25, 2008, at the age of 61. She was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Lincoln, Neb., to Leroy and Eleanor Radenbaugh Anderson. She lived in Nebraska, Colorado, Florida, Sequim and Port Angeles. She was a homemaker most of her life, raising three children. She loved her grandchildren and being with family. She also loved attending Kings Way Foursquare Church. She is survived by her daughters Joyce Gibson of Sequim and Danielle Colón of Port Angeles; sister Linda Canavan of California; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Miguel L. Nita Puffer A private family memorial will be held at a later date for Sequim resident Nita Puffer, who died March 9, 2008, at the age of 89. She was born March 10, 1918, in Manti, Utah, to Haler L. and Ann Chapman. She married Fred Puffer on June 9, 1940, in Sheridan, Ore. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1986. She attended Salem High School in Salem, Ore., and later attended beautician school in Salem. Mrs. Puffer worked as a beautician and also was a homemaker. She lived in Utah, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, crossword puzzles and singing. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mrs. Puffer is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Marcile Marci and Jim Thomsen and Mary and Jon Raymond; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
