Time to curb fossil fuels

Don Brunell’s guest opinion in the May 14 Sequim Gazette (“‘The Princess and the Pea’,” page A-10) reminds us that fossil fuels provide much of our sustenance and creature comforts.

His point seems to be that we should go right on doing what we are doing and ignore the very real threats of global warming that are a direct result of fossil fuel burning. Talk about having one’s head in the sand!

Unless we replace fossil fuel burning with renewable energy sources we will cause havoc in the U.S. and around the world on a scale never before experienced by humankind. We can, and are figuring out solutions, although too slowly, thanks to efforts by the fossil fuel industry and articles like Mr. Brunell’s to convince us to just keep doing what we are doing.

Most of us have children and grandchildren. It’s time we faced up to our responsibility to them.

Bob Lynette
