Soroptimist International of Sequim announced last week the award of three $1,000 continuing education scholarships.

The scholarships are funded exclusively from monies raised by the Sequim club, primarily at the annual Gala Garden Show the third weekend of March.



This year's recipients are:

_ Rondale West, a 2005 Sequim High School graduate who received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Central Washington University in 2009. She has been working as a mental health worker and therapeutic aide and begins a master's degree program in mental health counseling at Central Washington University this fall. West's goal is to become a licensed mental health counselor with a focus on children and adolescents.

_ Christina Bruce, a 2009 graduate of Sequim High School, is a student-athlete at the University of Great Falls in Montana. She plans on a double major of health and human performance, along with psychology. Upon graduation, Bruce said she would like to join the National Health Service, helping people who otherwise would not receive help.

_ Olivia Creasey, a 2008 graduate of Sequim High School, is a student at the University of Pittsburgh and is studying to be a bioengineer. Her goal is to use bioengineering to improve human quality of life. Creasey spent last summer working in one of the university's medical center bioengineering research labs and hopes to continue participating in research this fall.
