SMS sweatshirts available

Sequim Middle School has "SMS Spirit" sweatshirts that are available to parents, siblings and other community members.

The hooded or crewneck sweatshirts are $38 each.

Money raised goes to the Associated Student Body fund to help pay for sports and the other extracurricular activities.

Order forms are available in Student Services at the school office, 301 W. Hendrickson Road.

Orders must be submitted by Oct. 1. For more information, call 582-3500.



Scholarship competition

An application, a 750-word essay and supporting materials are due Dec. 1 for the Soroptimist International Club of Sequim's 2010/2011 Violet Richardson scholarship competition.

Sequim School District residents, including home school and private school students, between the ages of 14-17 at the time of application who show commitment to improving the lives of women and children through volunteer action are eligible.

Cash prizes presented are $500 for the first-place winner and $250 each to the winner's charity of choice and to the runner-up.

The winner competes and may win a cash prize on the Soroptimist Northwest regional level.

Applications are available at the Sequim High School career center or www.sisequim.org/.



ASSE exchange program seeks host families

The ASSE international student exchange program seeks host families for boys and girls who are 15-18, academically select and speak English.

ASSE students are fully insured and bring personal spending money.

Youth for Understanding seeks exchange families

Youth For Understanding, a nonprofit international exchange program, seeks volunteer families to host high school exchange students for the 2010-2011 school year.
