HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY
Robi Andison’s fourth-grade class performed two skits during the Jan. 13 assembly; one was in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his efforts during the Civil Rights Movement and the other was from a book titled “The Hundred Dresses” by Eleanor Estes. In the story, Wanda Petronski tells classmates she has a hundred dresses of all varieties in her closet at home, but she always wears the same old worn-out blue dress to school. The teasing from her classmates that follows seems harmless, but it’s not. This story explores the hurt that comes from thoughtless words and offers a painful, but heart-warming lesson in forgiveness. The students did an excellent job of bringing the story alive through scripting and choreography for the Helen Haller student body.

Sheri Suryan’s fifth-graders got a lesson in history by each choosing a historical figure to write a report on and then portraying their project person for an interactive presentation. Other students were invited to visit the classroom on presentation day and were encouraged to ask questions of the costumed students about what they had learned.

Tami Wall’s third-graders have been enjoying Sequim’s beautiful sunrises.
I just woke up and I’m bursting with colors. I am purple, blue, orange, yellow, and pink. Yellow for my happiness, blue for when I’m sad, and orange for when I’m mad. I am sad because I’m lonely. I hope the sun comes soon. He’s halfway here. I can’t wait! He got here!! We talked for eight hours. I’m happy now that I have a friend.

I’m a red sun waking up, listening to the birds singing, watching the animals wake up. It’s really fun making the black, cold night turn into a beautiful warm day.
Making the black night turn into blue sky. Watching the kids play all day outside. Watching all of the buses go to lots of houses then to one school. Watching all the planes go all over the world. The best thing to watch is everyone having fun. The End

“About the Sky”
When I am a sky, I feel cool because I can see all the people all around the world. I can see the moon, my house, parks, slides, swing sets, and that’s all I can think of being a sky. One more thing before I go: I can see you. Also, good night to you. People who are still awake: go to bed!

It’s a fall evening. I’m a sun that’s about to go to bed. I don’t feel lonely at all with all the friends I met-like the sky, the clouds, the planes, the birds, and the wind carrying leaves. When I look down, I see a tree on a hill with leaves falling down because it’s fall. I also see the greenest grass I’ve ever seen. I’m filled with joy. I shine so bright I can blind someone. My friend sky is very colorful like the leaves that pass by every now and then. I hear children’s laughter passing by.

My idea is that in the morning, I am colorful like orange, pink, blue, and purple and it is really colorful, but in the afternoon it is just all blue but at night time it is just all black with stars and I am very lonely and I hope the sun comes out. If it doesn’t, I hope the tree wakes up because I am so bored. It just might not be a nice day out for the tree. The tree must feel sad because it has no leaves and he likes to stay warm and the sun might come out tomorrow because he knows when to come out because he probably likes to sleep in for the next day.

“If I were the Sky”
If I were the sky, I would probably feel lonely. I would change my colors. I would watch the sun rise in the mornings and I would watch the sun go down at dawn if I were the sky. I would watch the birds go by and airplanes go by if I were the sky. I would watch all the children playing down below.
If I were the sky I would feel the wind blow in a different way. I would turn black at night and turn blue the next morning. I would turn dark at night and then I will become light. I would listen to the birds in the morning. I would hear them singing and I would talk with the sun every day, so I wasn’t lonely when the sun was up. When he went down, I got really lonely because I had nobody to talk to but all I could do was listen to the birds go to sleep.
I can make myself make different animals and stuff. At night I would go to sleep by watching the stars twinkling and I would watch the white moon just shine. I would watch spring go to winter and I would watch lots of rain fall in the spring and I would watch the white snow fall in the winter.

Hi. I’m tree. My leaves blow off at fall in new ones come in spring. In the spring, birds come back and land on me because baby birds are born in the spring. In the fall, they leave again and now I talk to the sky, sun, and old grass. Next spring, I can see the birds have chicks again, but this time the baby this year is going to have kids.
