SHS Wolves lend UW some tunes

If, as some suspect, it’s the last of its kind, the prep squads gave Husky fans something to miss.

Fourteen high school bands from across the state took part in the 2012 Husky Band Day on Sept. 15, held this year at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field with UW’s stadium undergoing a massive renovation.

At this year’s 60th-annual event, as in previous years, prep bands rehearsed on the field several hours before the game, then enjoyed half a college football game — UW led Portland State 45-0 — and then entertained the crowd with a half-dozen tunes.

Sequim High School band director Vern Fosket said this is likely the final Husky Band Day, with the UW stadium renovations eliminating most of the sidelines.

SHS 2009 grad Alex Lamb, now a senior at the University of Washington, served as a kind of chaperone.
