Pirates sign 2 soccer stars

The Peninsula College Men's Soccer team recently signed two players for the 2008 fall season.

Alec Risk is a 5-foot-11 goalkeeper from South Salem High School in Salem, Ore. A four-year starter in high school, he earned second team All-League honors in 2006 and first team All-League in 2007. In 2006, his high school team made it to the state semifinals and in 2007 made it to the quarterfinals.

Risk plays for the Cascade FC premier club in Salem and has a 3.20 grade-point-average. "Alec is a great shot stopper," Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said. "He has very quick reflexes and knows his angles very well. He also has a punt of 75-plus yards."

Joining Risk and the other Pirates is Ryan Muyskens, a 5-foot-10 midfielder from South Kitsap High School. Muyskens is a three-year starter for SK's Wolves, earning All-League honorable mention in 2007 and helping his high school team to a second-place finish at the state 4A tournament in 2006.

Muyskens also plays for South Kitsap Select and has been its captain for eight years. He has a 3.00 GPA.

"Ryan has great vision of the field," Chapman said. "He wins balls and distributes really well. Ryan plays midfield but can also play defense, which will be a big help to us."

The Pirates are coming off their best season in school history after winning their division, placing fourth at the NWAACC tournament and finishing 14-5-2 overall.
