Cardinals sweep Pirates

Peninsula College's softball squad is still looking for that winning combination after dropping a pair of NWAACC North division games to Skagit Valley in Mount Vernon April 25.

The losses run the Pirates' losing streak to 12 games.

In game one, P.C. out-hit the Cardinals 10-7 but gave up runs in each of the first four innings in a 6-3 loss.

Kayla Ralston ripped three hits while teammate Kelly Henderson blasted a home run and Damaris Craig was 2-for-4 in the loss.

Sindi Morrison took the loss for Peninsula, walking four and striking out one.

Former Sequim High standout Chantal Hughes-Gardner hit a home run for Skagit Valley.

In game two, the Pirates committed seven errors in a 9-4 defeat.

Henderson was 3-for-4 with a double while Ralston racked up two doubles and two RBIs, giving her five hits in the twinbill. Peninsula's Sam Flett had two hits and Missy Minor doubled.

Sierra McCoy took the loss for Peninsula, dropping her season mark to 2-17. She struck out one Cardinal batter and walked none.

"Our hitting has come around tremendously," Peninsula coach Heather Sankey said, "but you can't expect to win games when the same errors keep being committed."

The Pirates' doubleheader with Edmonds, originally slated for April 27 and pushed back to April 28, was canceled; no make-up date has been scheduled as of press time.

Peninsula was scheduled to host Everett April 29 - results were unavailable at press time. The Pirates take on Shoreline away May 2 and host Olympic May 3.
