Daredevil thrill show set for Friday

Car rollovers, motorcycles crashing through walls of flame, even the 100-foot Dive Bomber: This show has it all.

Bob Hanna’s Auto Daredevil Thrill Show is slated for 8 p.m. July 11 at the Port Angeles Speedway (255678 Highway 101).

Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for youths 11 years old or younger.

Although the stunts start at 8 p.m., the gates open at 5:30 p.m. and thrill fans are advised to show up early. In previous years, the line to get into the show backed onto the highway.

The band Chantilly Lace is scheduled to entertain the crowd from 6:30-8 p.m., followed by the two-hour-plus show.

Events include the Domino Crash, Slide For Life, Outlaw T-Bone, Human Battering Ram, Motorcycle Fire Walls, Ice Wall Crash and show-capping Dive-Bomber.

The stunts are drawn from “old-time” thrill shows Hanna and colleagues used to put on in California and much of the West Coast. He started his career with famed stuntman Joey Chitwood and his daredevils in the 1950s, when Hanna was 15. Since then he has performed in more than 750 shows in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America.

During the show, Peaches the Clown entertains youths and the show organizers host a raffle with more than $2,500 in prizes.

Putting on the show is Hanna, a veteran of auto stunts dating back to the 1950s.
