Sequim slips in Silverdale

For spurts, Sequim's ball handling, rebounding and shooting mirrored that of their 3A Olympic Trojan hosts.

Unfortunately for the winless Wolves, the game is played in eight-minute stretches.

Olympic topped Sequim 66-43 in Silverdale on Jan. 16.

Sequim got strong efforts from Sunma Agostine (15 points, five assists) and Lauryn Garrett (10 points, seven assists, eight rebounds), but the Trojans were too strong early, outscoring the Wolves 19-6 in the first quarter.

"The girls play with heart," Sequim coach Lisa Corbit said. "(But) they have a hard time finishing and scoring."

Despite a series of good-looking stretches from the Wolves featuring fast breaks, quality post play and accurate, long-range shooting, Olympic's quick squad had too many weapons. Samantha Viray led three Trojans in double figures with 12 points and added five steals. Jessica Klump added 11 points and Samantha Thornton had 10 as all nine Olympic players netted points.

"We're shooting more (and) getting more shots to fall,"

Sequim coach Lisa Corbit said. "They see the sparks of what they can do."

One bright spot in the game, Corbit noted: the Wolves broke 40 points for the first time this season.

Three days earlier in Sequim, the Wolves saw Bremerton freshman Jalen Carpenter dominate play with 32 points in a 54-35 Knights win.

Kathryn Roeber led the

Wolves with 15 points.

Sequim (0-8 in Olympic League, 0-11 overall) was scheduled to play at Klahowya on Jan. 20 - results were unavailable at press time. Sequim travels to Bremerton on Jan. 23.
