SHS boys take fifth at Higgins

Sequim's boys golfers found the competition tough but still managed to place fifth out of 10 teams at the Tim Higgins Memorial golf tournament at Kitsap Golf and Country Club in Bremerton on April 23.

Freshman Ryan O'Mera led the Wolves' charge with a round of 85, good for 11th overall, followed closely by teammates Chad Quinet and Taylor Thorson with rounds of 87 each.

The Olympic Trojans took the team title with 319 points and Central Kitsap was second. Port Townsend and South Kitsap tied for third while Port Angeles was sixth.

Port Townsend's Ronnie Harrell edged CK's Troy Means for medalist honors with a chip-in birdie and round of 72.

The girls found competition even tougher at the Duke Streeter Invitational in Port Angeles on April 24, finishing sixth out of seven teams.

Kim Duce and Zoei Zbaraschuk combined to shoot a round of 84 while Lisa Doan and Hailey Estes finished with a round of 95.

Olympic won the tourney title with a combined score of 163, followed by Capital (165) and a two-way tie for third between Kingston and Shelton. Port Angeles was fifth.

Sequim's golf squads have a busy schedule this week. The boys were slated to play the Duke Streeter Invitational in Port Angeles on April 27 and an invitational tourney at Port Ludlow on April 28 (results of both were unavailable at press time) before hosting North Mason on April 30.

The girls had an invitational at Burlington-Edison on April 27 and a home date with Olympic on April 28 before the North Mason match on Thursday.

Sequim's April 21 match at Port Townsend was rained out and rescheduled to May 4.
