Wolves earn tie versus Bulldogs

What a difference a year makes.

Sequim's Wolves, struggling in the cellar of the Olympic League standings in 2008, came within a few seconds of knocking off defending Olympic League champ North Mason in just the second game of the 2009 season, settling for a 3-3 tie in Belfair on Sept. 10.

"We just jelled as a team," Sequim coach Enid Halewyn said. "That (game) was the kind of game I'd expect at the end of the season."

Sequim (1-0-1) got first-half goals from Turi Anderson and Kyla Hall for a 2-0 halftime lead and looked to snag a 3-2 win when Anna LaBeaume scored in the 78th minute.

But North Mason's Kathryn Meyer scored off a loose ball in injury time to even the score.

Bulldogs Emily Anderson and Tristan Stromberg also had goals.

In 2008, North Mason (0-1-1) beat Sequim by scores of 4-1 and 5-3.

"I'll take the tie," Halewyn said. "It was phenomenal."

The tie came two days after topping Forks 2-0 to open the season.

Hall scored both of Sequim's goals before leaving the game with an illness, Halewyn said.

Sequim was scheduled to play Port Angeles on Sept. 14 - results were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves tackle Klahowya at home on Sept. 17 and Kingston, also at home, on Sept. 22.
