Hardy places 14th in 50, 100 free

Sequim High School junior Rachel Hardy placed 14th in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events at the class 2A state swimming and diving championships in Federal Way last week.

Hardy swam a 26.40 in the 50 free and 1:00.03 in the 100 free in preliminaries, missing the finals in each. Both marks were slightly behind Hardy's seeding times.

"We were happy that Sequim was represented at the meet," Sequim coach Linda Moats said.

A total of 31 teams and 128 athletes competed in the 2A classification last week.

"To be able to say that Rachel finished in the top 16 in the state is a cool thing," Moats said.
